Cavs Remain Perfect In February With 97-89 Victory Over Chicago

Cleveland, OH –  The Cleveland Cavaliers overcame a 49-40 halftime deficit to defeat the visiting Chicago Bulls 97-89 in front of a packed house at Rocket Mortgage Field on Saturday night. They trailed by 5 to start the fourth quarter until a 23-9 ferocious run put them ahead for good. This was the sixth straight win for Cleveland.

The Cavaliers were led by Donovan Mitchell with 29 and Jarrett Allan with 23.  Allan continues to be a difference maker as he added 10 rebounds to his double double stat line.  Darius Garland was also a force with his 19 points and 7 assists.  This threesome continues to be one of the very best in the NBA.  Add in Evan Mobley with his 14 points and 6 boards tonight and they become unstoppable.

The visiting Bulls were led by Zach Lavine with 23 points, 5 rebounds and assists.  Lavine was aided by 3 other teammates who finished in double digit scoring as DeMar Rozen totaled 16, Nikola Vucevic 14 and Patrick Williams with 13.

Ricky Rubio continues to get healthy and put in quality minutes for Cleveland off the bench.  Rubio helps with a variety of roles, tonight it was his ability to find the open man as Rubio totaled 5 assists in just 16 minutes.

The win improved the Cavaliers to 37-22 as they are now a season high 15 games over 500.  The loss dropped Chicago to 26-30.  The Bulls are now 10th in the Eastern Conference and in serious danger of falling out of the Play in Tournament chase.  As for the Cavaliers, they sit at 4th in the East, and only percentage points behind the 76ers for third overall.

For Cleveland, this was now their sixth straight win, with the other five coming over the last two weeks at home against Memphis, Detroit and now Chicago.  Their three road wins came against Indianapolis, Washington and New Orleans.  They have not lost a single game in February, and will play at home against San Antonio on Monday and in Philadelphia Wednesday before the All Star break begins late next week.

Tonight’s victory improved the Cavaliers to a 4-0 record over Chicago this season with 2 wins coming at home and on the road each.
