Catching Up on the Cardinals: Ball State Athletics weekly results

Here are the results for Ball State Athletics from the week of Monday, Sept. 15 to Sunday, Sept. 21.
Monday (Sept. 15)
Ball State women’s golf hosted the Brittany Kelly Classic at The Players Club in Yorktown, Indiana. Junior Sarah Gallagher led the Cardinals as an individual on the first day with her lowest collegiate round of three under (69).
Tuesday (Sept. 16)
Ball State women’s golf capped off the Brittany Kelly Classic as the Cardinals captured the tournament victory for the third-straight year, as the Red and White shot 24 over (888). This was 13 strokes better than Dayton, who took second place. Gallagher also captured the individual title as she sank a 22-foot birdie putt on her fourth playoff hole. She ended the event two over (218).
Wednesday (Sept. 17)
No events.

Thursday (Sept. 18)
Ball State soccer (4-2-2) tied Central Michigan 1-1 in the Cardinals’ first home Mid-American Conference (MAC) game of 2025. Senior Delaney Caldwell scored Ball State’s lone goal in the first half.
Ball State women’s volleyball (4-6) fell to Cincinnati 3-2 in Worthen Arena for its second-straight loss. Sophomore outside hitter Carson Tyler led the Cardinals with a career-high 28 kills.
Friday (Sept. 19)
Ball State women’s volleyball (4-7) was swept 3-0 by No. 11 Purdue in Muncie. The Red and White were led by Tyler with 12 kills.
Ball State field hockey (3-5) topped Longwood 4-3 in overtime. Senior Grace Clokie lifted the Cardinals to victory as she scored the game-winning goal in the extra period.
Ball State’s cross country team came in sixth place out of 11 teams in the George Dale Invite, hosted by Western Michigan. Senior Carly Spletzer led the Red and White as she finished in 12th place in the 6K race with a time of 21:39.4.
Saturday (Sept. 20)
Ball State football ended its non-conference season with a 31-25 road loss to UConn. In the loss, Cardinals’ redshirt senior QB1 Kiael Kelly was 17-for-24 with 209 passing yards. He also had a touchdown reception.
Ball State women’s volleyball (4-8) ended the weekend with a 3-2 loss to Eastern Kentucky, making it three-straight defeats for the Cardinals. The Red and White were led by Tyler with 19 kills. Four total Cardinals recorded double-digit kills.
Ball State men’s golf hosted the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational at Delaware Country Club. Freshman Luke Johnson led the Cardinals on day one with 14 birdies as the Red and White fired 14 under (266), tying the lowest round in the program’s history.
Ball State women’s tennis started their time in the Xavier Fall Invite as they faced Xavier and Dayton in singles’ matches and played Northern Kentucky in doubles. Ball State defeated Dayton in all six singles’ matches, won three doubles events over Northern Kentucky and fell in all six matches to Xavier.
Sunday (Sept. 21)
Ball State soccer dropped its second home MAC game of the year, falling to Kent State 1-0. Ball State only had five shot attempts on the day, with only two of those being on the goal.
Ball State men’s golf finished the weekend by winning the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational. The Cardinals finished the event 27 under (813) and defeated Butler by three shots. In the individual event, Ball State freshmen Luke Johnston and Samuel Harris went toe-to-toe for four playoff holes as Johnston recorded a birdie for the title.
Ball State field hockey (3-6) fell 4-0 to Virginia Commonwealth. The Cardinals only recorded one shot on the goal.
