Catching Up on the Cardinals: Ball State Athletics results from the last week

Here are the results for Ball State Athletics from the week of Monday, Sept. 8 to Sunday, Sept. 14.

Monday (Sept. 8)

Ball State men’s golf moved from eighth to fifth place of the Golfweek Fall Challenge event. The Cardinals were led by freshman Samuel Harris as he birdied six holes to fire a five-under 67.

Tuesday (Sept. 9)

Ball State men’s golf ended the Golfweek Fall Challenge event as the Cardinals came in third place as they finished 14 under par. This was the second-best team round in the program’s history. Harris finished second out of 75 total golfers. His 12-under-par round matches the second-best individual round regarding par in program history.

Wednesday (Sept. 10)

Ball State soccer (3-2-1) topped Purdue Fort Wayne 1-0 as junior Emily Roper scored the game-winning goal. The Cardinals outshot their opponent 19-12 on the day.

Thursday (Sept. 11)

No events.

Friday (Sept. 12)

Ball State women’s volleyball (3-4) began the weekend with a 3-2 (20-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-20, 15-11) victory as the Cardinals rallied to defeat Marquette. Junior Camryn Wise had 12 kills and six blocks in the win.

Ball State field hockey (1-5) fell 3-1 to Saint Francis. Junior Maddie Summitt scored the Cardinals’ lone goal in the third frame.​​

Saturday (Sept. 13)

Ball State football won its first game of the season opener as the Cardinals topped New Hampshire 34-29 in their home opener. The win marks the first victory for first-year head coach Mike Uremovich. Redshirt junior running back Qua Ashley had the most rushing yards for a Ball State player since 2023 with 154 yards. He also had two rushing touchdowns, 33 receiving yards and a touchdown catch.

Ball State women’s volleyball (4-4) knocked off Milwaukee with a 3-0 sweep. Junior Lindsey Green and freshman Reese Axness supported the Cardinals as they had combined for 35 assists (23 and 12).

Sunday (Sept. 14)

Ball State soccer (4-2-1) opened Mid-American Conference play as the Cardinals topped UMass 1-0. Freshman Lexi Watkins’ early goal became the match’s deciding factor.

Ball State women’s volleyball (4-5) ended the weekend with a 3-2 loss to James Madison. Sophomore Carson Tyler recorded a career high 26 kills, but the Cardinals fell just short despite the effort.

Ball State field hockey (2-5) took a home victory as the Cardinals knocked off Lock Haven 2-1 in overtime. Junior Grace Clokie scored Ball State’s first goal while freshman Jade Vandevoorde secured the game-winning shot in the extra period.
