Gates Mills, Ohio – Four Canfield pitchers combined to shutout defending Division II state champs Archbishop Hoban, 8-0, Sunday morning.
Senior and Wright State commit Nate Shaw struck out seven batters in three innings for the Cardinals. He also was a contributor on offense as well.
Shaw’s leadoff walk in the bottom of the second inning jumpstarted the Canfield offense. Ryan Petro followed with a triple to left-center field to put the Cardinals up 1-0.
The Cardinals would add two more to increase their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning. Ben Slanker hit a triple to right field, and scored on a wild pitch.
They added four more runs in the fourth and another in the fifth for the final margin.
In addition to Petro’s triple, he pitched an inning of shutout ball in the fifth inning, followed by Ohio State commit Landon Beidelschides, and senior Brock Baker to close things out.
