Canfield, Ohio – The Canfield Cardinals defeated the Orange Lions, 13-5, on Thursday night at Bob Dove Field.
Canfield got on the board with a goal from Karley Gerst at the 7:18 mark of the first quarter. Kayleigh Carney added one just over a minute later, making the score 2-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The Cardinals added three more goals to increase their lead to 5-0 at the half. The goals were scored by Radhika Uppal, Ashlyn Elford, and Jenna Alexander.
Kayleigh Carney added another goal 22 seconds into the third to make the score 6-0 in favor of Canfield. Jenna Alexander and Radhika Uppal each added their second goals at 8:20, and 6:48, respectively, upping the lead to 8-0.
Orange got on the board when sophomore attack Bree Turner scored at the 5:57 mark of the third quarter. Canfield countered with two more goals, from Ashlyn Elford (2nd) and Kayleigh Carney (3rd) to take a 10-1 at the end of three.
The sophomore attack/defenseman added her fourth with 11:07 left to push the Canfield lead to 11-1, triggering the running clock. She would then add her fifth with 9:23 remaining. Junior midfielder Radhika Uppal added her third goal with 7:55 left.
The Orange Lions scored four goals in the final stanza. Bree Turner scored three of them, the first at the 10:04 mark, her second with two minutes left, and the third with two seconds left. Andie Berlin also scored for Orange at the 5:41 mark.
Canfield (4-3) hosts Kenston Saturday afternoon. Orange (1-6) travels to Cardinal Mooney next Tuesday evening.
