GRAFTON, OH – What was billed as a shootout between two of the top teams with two of the top players in the SWC, lived up to the hype before an untimely injury led to a 68-35 Olmsted Falls at Midview victory. Danielle Cameron of Olmsted Falls finished with 22 points in a little under 3 full quarters of action.
Her counterpart Liv DiFranco of Midview was also off to a red-hot start until an injury late into the second quarter ended her night early. DiFranco had 13 points at that point and was just starting to heat up. It’s no secret how highly with think of this young lady and we wish her nothing but the best in health and fingers crossed this is just a nick and she will be back soon.
One of the reasons the Bulldogs were able to pull away is because of the incredible depth they have and the nonstop hustle points. I’ve never seen a team hustle as hard as Olmsted Falls finds a way to do, game in and game out, and tonight was no exception. As for depth, they sure have that too as Jesse Simon went off herself for 17 points. Maddie Cerovac finished with 9 points while Jessica Wolanin had 8.
Each team swapped the lead back and forth to start the game before 4 straight points from Danielle Cameron helped the Bulldogs build an early 9-4 lead minutes into the action. From there, it was Olivia DiFranco’s turn to get red hot, as the two of the top seniors in the county began to duel. By the end of the first quarter, is was 16-13 Bulldogs in front. DiFranco and Cameron combined for 13 of the games 29 points early.
The dominance of DiFranco continued to begin the second quarter as she buried a three ball to tie it up right away. Moments, later, the Bulldogs got five straight points from Cameron, and we were off and running again. From there a Jesse Simon three ball combined with an incredible right-handed move to the hoop from Cameron, made it 26-18 Falls with 4:52 to play in the first half.
Another big shot from DiFranco was answered by a three ball from Maddie Cerovac. It was then however, that Liv DiFranco had to leave the game with injury and everything changed as the Bulldogs finished on a run that gave them the 34-23 halftime lead.
The third quarter was all Jesse Simon as she went off, scoring at will and finishing the frame with 10 points in that 8-minute stretch as the Bulldogs took full control and held a 59-31 lead after three. They went on to cruise to a 68-35 victory from there.
The Bulldogs will look to stay hot as they travel to North Ridgeville on Saturday while Midview will host Amherst this Saturday.
