Caffey Runs Avon Eagles Past Fremont Ross Little Giants 52-26

AVON, OH – The Eagles benefited from 4 touchdown runs by Jakorion Caffey and 2 long touchdown passes to Ethan Holbrook to defeat the Fremont Ross Little Giants 52-26 at home tonight in front of a frigid crowd.  Holbrook also had a punt return for a touchdown in a night that featured several big plays for the Eagles.

The Eagles actually had the ball for less than 40% of the plays, and it didn’t matter because of their quick strike and big play ability.  Sam DeTillio had second half touchdown passes of 55 and 48 yards to Holbrook in the second half to stretch the lead.

The Little Giants made a great account for themselves in this one as starting quarterback Kayden Homes had 3 touchdown passes and 1 touchdown run on the night that saw him throw for over 200 yards.  His main target was Bryson Hammer who had 2 touchdowns and over 100 yards receiving and nearly a dozen catches.

Ethan Holbrook got the Eagles cooking early as he took a punt 78 yards to score after the Little Giants first possession came up empty. Holbrook dodged and broke tackles the entire way as he made it 7-0 with 9:09 left in the first quarter.

The Little Giants next drive would end on the second play as the Homes pass was picked off by Chase Meyers and returned to the 38 of Freemont.  It would only take one play for the Eagles to score again as Jakorion Caffey took it 38 yards on the first hand off of the drive to score, making it 14-0 with 8:05 still on the clock.

Down 14-0 the Little Giants used a no huddle quick draw attack to start moving the ball.  A 35 yard pass play to Adan Hrynciw got them a nice chunk early in the drive.  A few plays later another pass to Adam Hrynciw would put the Giants on the cusp of scoring inside the Eagle 10.  They would cash it in on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Homes to Bryson Hammer.  The extra point snap was botched and the Eagles led 14-6 with 2:39 to go in the opening quarter.  The quarter would end by that same score.

Early into the second quarter, Nathanial Vakos made a 34-yard kick that would have been good from 50 to extend the lead to 17-6.  He hooked it perfectly from the right hash mark to split the uprights. Moments later the Eagles would cause a receiver fumble to get the ball at the Little Giants 9-yard line.  Caffey and the Eagles would make them pay with another one play drive for a 9-yard touchdown to make it 24-6 Eagles.

Another Homes to Hammer touchdown hookup would cut the Eagle lead to 24-12 on the next possession.  This was the payoff of a nice drive that saw two fourth down conversions for the Little Giants.

The Eagles received the ball to start the half and wasted no time scoring.  On the third play of the half, they launched a 55-yard touchdown bomb from DeTillio to Holbrook to make it 31-12. On their next drive, the Eagles used a hurry up offense to find the endzone again as Caffey took it in from 14 yards for his third score of the night.  This made it 38-12 with 7:54 remaining in the third quarter.

The Little Giants would not go away without a fight however, as they took less than a minute to drive 80 yards on their next drive to score.  This time with a 29 yard touchdown pass to Elijah Simms.  Another missed extra point would keep the score at 38-18 with 6:55 still to go in the quarter.

A nice Gavin Ehrhardt return would get the Eagles the ball back near midfield.  It didn’t take long for the Eagles to score again with another long bomb to Holbrook of 48 yards to make it 45-18 at the 5:27 mark of the third quarter.  3 third quarter Eagle touchdowns in just over 6 minutes of play.  A Little Giants Kayden Homes quarterback sneak from the goal line would cut the lead to 45-26 on their next possession.

The Eagles would go on to win 52-26 after another Caffey touchdown run put it away for good.  The Eagles will now play Olmsted Falls next week in a site TBD.  The Eagles won their earlier season matchup with the Bulldogs week 7 of the season. The two teams where co conference champions with 8-2 records and 6-1 in the SWC.

The players of the game are

Avon Eagle Running back Jakorian Caffey with 214 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Fremont Ross Little Giant QB Kayden Homes with 3 passing TD’s and 212 yards passing.
