Byers’ 30 Points Lead Strongsville Past Shaker Heights

Strongsville, OH: Shaker Heights (1-9) held a one-point lead after the first quarter, but big performances from Josh Byers (30 points) and Brayden Wypasek (20 points) led Strongsville (11-0) to a comfortable 71-50 win over the Red Raiders. Junior Kevin Lowery led the scoring for Shaker Heights with 13 points.

The second quarter belonged to senior Josh Byers, as he drove the lane and scored 12 of the Mustangs 18 points in the period. Shaker Heights struggled to get shots to fall as Strongsville turned up the defensive pressure. When the halftime buzzer rang, the Mustangs led 34-25.

The story of the third quarter was fouls, as both teams reached the bonus. Unfortunately for the Red Raiders, they once again struggled to put the ball in the basket, leading to a 19-8 advantage for the Mustangs. Heading into the fourth quarter, Strongsville held a 53-33 advantage.

Holding a 20-point advantage, Head Coach Kevin Sapara was able to empty the bench, getting valuable minutes for everyone on the roster.
