The Shoremen of Avon Lake sailed to Olmsted falls in a Friday night matchup that would determine each team’s playoff ambitions. Avon Lake came in 5-3 while Olmsted Falls were 6-2, making this matchup the battle for second place and a potential playoff berth.
The Bulldogs wasted no time as they used there high-powered Triple Option offense to run the ball through the heart of the Shoremen defense. Fullback Luke Dieckman was the man in short yardage situations as he punched the Bulldogs in for their first touchdown on the day.
The Shoremen would fail to move the ball as they wouldn’t get past the 50-yard line until the second half of the ball game. The Bulldogs defense stayed strong the entire game as they dominated the line of scrimmage from the very start.
The Bulldogs would go 3 for 4 on their first five drives as Dieckman would go for three carries, three yards, and three touchdowns. He would help boost this team to a 21 to 0 lead against the Shoremen as the first half would dwindle down.
The man of the night Rocco Conti, would score the last two rushing touchdowns for the Bulldogs as he had 12 carries for over 158 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Shoremen could not find an answer for the junior running back as he continues to be the lead rusher for the Bulldogs.
Senior quarter back Charlie Ciolek was efficient for the Bulldogs going for 66 yards on only 4 passing attempts. Ciolek had a big 50-yard pass in the second half to his wide receiver Gavin Moore.
The Shoremen now have a record of 6-3 as they lost three conference games since their victory at Avon to open up SWC play. Avon Lake will host North Ridgeville next week to close out conference play and try to end their SWC season with a winning record as they head towards the playoffs.
Olmsted falls now moves to 7-2 as they head east down Bagley Road to take on their rivals at Baldwin Wallace University. Both Berea-Midpark and Olmsted Falls only have one conference loss to their name.
