by Two 3-1 teams battled tonight in a SWC clash as the Amherst Comets visited the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs. The Bulldogs came back from early deficits of 14-0, and 20-7, to win in impressive fashion 56-35 in a blitzkrieg of points.

Olmsted Falls stuck to their tried and true battle attack of running the ball at will. With backs like Michael Candow, Andrew Parkowski and Rocco Conti, who could blame them?
Parkowski finished with 188 yards on 31 carries, scoring 3 times. Conti remains the duel threat as he also totaled 79 yards on 8 carries scoring once on the ground. He also hauled in a 58-yard touchdown pass as he danced along the sidelines and broke tackles to score. Candow only toted the rock twice, but made it count with touchdown runs of 48 and 21 yards.
The Bulldogs scored through the air as well. Quarterback Charlie Ciolek went 9 of 12 for 207 yards and two touchdown tosses. His main target once again was the versatile Jimmy Cooney who pulled down 5 passes for 91 yards and a touchdown. He also broke up a pass that could have possibly been picked when the Bulldogs were driving late.
Drew Kanaba was his usual steady self, going 8 of 8 on extra points, along with several touchbacks on a busy night of kickoffs. The hungry defense of the Bulldogs had a sack and also picked off Brezina as they brought the pressure and hard hits all night long.
The most impressive performances of the night actually came from a tandem on the losing squad. Amherst wideout Ty Weatherspoon was untouchable out there tonight and simply couldn’t be contained. Weatherspoon went off for 217 yards on 9 catches, scoring twice. He was a man amongst boys at moments tonight.
The young man throwing him those passes also had a big night. Tyler Brezina went 16 of 24 for 343 yards and four touchdown passes. As we said, Weatherspoon was incredible, but so was Alden Steele who went off for 120 yards and a touchdown. He caught 5 balls, but could have several more as a few bounced off his tips, or were just out of reach.
Ty Weatherspoon wasn’t the only Weatherspoon who had a good night. Torrie Weatherspoon rushed for 65 yards on 9 carries, also scoring on a 34-yard rumble. It was an incredible cut back run that he made.
Brezina and the Comets got off to a red hot 14-0 start. They struck quickly with a 71-yard touchdown toss deep down the sidelines to Ty Weatherspoon. One possession later, it was a 70-yard strike to Alden Steele. The score from Steele could have been a 5-yard gain, but he busted through arm tackles and took it to the house.
The Bulldogs would fall further behind 20-7 after Candow and Weatherspoon swapped a pair of touchdown runs. Candow from 49 yards out and Weatherspoon from 34. Both beautiful runs that combined not only speed, but great downfield vision and open field running. Coach DeLuca and the Bulldogs didn’t panic and would go on to outscore the Comets 49-15 the rest of the way.
It started with a beautiful over the shoulder pitch and catch in the corner of the endzone to Cooney. The pass was placed perfectly and Cooney did an incredible job getting both of his feet in.
A few moments later the Bulldogs would have the ball back for a two-minute drive to close the first half. Coach Deluca went for it on a fourth and 1 from the Comets 47-yard line to keep the drive going as Parkowski plowed forward.
A few plays later it was Ethan Williams with an OBJ like catch and run to move the ball 42 yards up the field and set up the Bulldogs. Parkowski would plow ahead and Olmsted Falls took a 21-20 lead into the break.
The second half was all Bulldogs with touchdown runs from Parkowski (2 of his 3), Rocco Conti and Michael Candow. The latter, (Candow) got blasted at the goal line but managed to spin in the air, hold onto the ball and land in the endzone. A remarkable job tonight by that young man.
The Comets managed to keep it close into the fourth with touchdown passes to Weatherspoon and Steele. The one handed left-handed catch by Steele, being the nicest one I have seen all season.
Next week the Comets look to rebound and stop a two-game skid as they host North Olmsted. The Bulldogs looks to remain hot as they travel and take on a dangerous Avon Lake team.

Rocco Conti with a touchdown catch and run, totaling 151 yards rushing and receiving. He also had several big kickoff returns to give the Bulldogs great starting position.
Andrew Parkowski who has to be tired as he was the workhorse tonight carrying the ball 31 times. He racked up 188 yards and picked up one big first down and touchdown after another!
Ty Weatherspoon with 2 TD’s, 217 yards on 9 catches. I’ll say it again, the young man was incredible and fun to watch.
