McArthur, Ohio- The Athens Bulldogs took on the Vinton County Vikings on September 17, 2021, in a conference game.
The stadium in McArthur, Ohio was filled with fans celebrating the seniors at Vinton County. A firework display was even put in place for the celebration.
The game started out very intense. Both teams showed enthusiasm to get a win. The Bulldogs were motivated to bring back their second win of the season and the Vikings wanted to win for senior night.
With only 14 seconds starting in the first quarter Marcus Stevers had an incredible 90-yard touchdown. That set the tone for the game. The extra point was good making the score 7-0, Athens.
Vinton County turned around and scored a touchdown run by Gabe Raschke the extra point was not good making the score 7-6, Athens.
Athens, Levi Neal, caught a touchdown pass and the extra point was good making the score 14-6, Athens.
The Bulldogs displayed great offense and defense in the first quarter which resulted in them being in the the lead at the end of the first quarter, 14-6, Athens.
Vinton County bounced back and Raschke scored another touchdown run to start the second quarter. The extra point was not good. The score is 14-12, Athens.
Athens was on a mission to advance the lead which resulted in a touchdown run by Luke Brandes and the extra point was good making the score 21-12, Athens.
Vinton County scored a touchdown and the two-point conversion was not good. Making the score 21-18, Athens.
The first half ended 21-18, Athens.
At the start of the third quarter, Athens showed great defense but Vinton County still managed to pull through a touchdown by Raschke and the two-point conversion was good. This was the Vikings first lead of the game. 26-21, Vinton County.
Vinton County had yet another good touchdown and two-point conversion putting them in a solid lead, 34-21.
The third quarter ended with the Vikings in the lead, 34-21.
At the start of the fourth quarter, Vinton County’s Raschke scored yet another touchdown with a two-point conversion. Making the lead 42-21, Vinton County.
Vinton County scored another touchdown, resulting in a good two-point conversion. Which made the lead 50-21.
Despite the Bulldog’s determination in the first quarter and being in the lead in the first half, they fell short to the Vikings. Athens will play against Logan in an away game next Friday night, where they will try to get their second win of the season.
