Both teams entered the game with a winning record in the conference but a losing record overall. Buffalo was looked to be a bottom feeder in the conference with a predicted win total of two. They made sure everyone knew what type of team they really are on the first possession of the game.
Buffalo got the ball first and showed their dominant running game led by Ron Cook. Cole Snyder showed off his running game by bullying through a Bowling Green defender. “We talk about toughness so much in our locker room, your team truly is only as tough as your Quarter Back.” Said coach Linguist after the game. This setup a one-yard rushing touchdown for Ron Cook to get an early lead 7-0. For the entirety of the first quarter Bowling Green failed to get past their own 40-yard line.
The running game may have been the talk of the town, but it was Cole Snyder who kept the Falcons guessing. Snyder connected with Jamari Gassett for 47 yards that led to another Ron Cook rushing touchdown on the goal line. A field goal the possession before added on to the lead making it 17-0.
Bowling green continued their struggles on both sides of the ball. They lose possession of the ball on Buffalos one yard line. They procced to give up a 92-yard rushing touchdown to Mike Washington, extending the lead to 24-0.
The half ended the same way that it started, with a Bulls rushing touchdown from Mike Washington with just 14 seconds left in the game. Bowling green entered their locker room with a lot of questions and little answers as they were down 31-0 at home.
Bowling Green knocked on the doorstep of the Buffalo endzone, they tried getting their first score with a handoff to Jamal Johnson. He got stopped at the one but lost the ball to James Patterson who proceeded to take the ball to the house to make the score 38-0.
The Bulls offense continued running the ball as they aimed to milk the clock out “there was not one thing but a collection of things we felt like we could create to run the ball” – coach Linguist when asked what they saw on film going into the game.
Bowling Green finally got their touchdown late in the third quarter from Matt McDonald to Ta’ron Keith. This did not mount a comeback as it was the only touchdown of the day for the Falcons as they fall at home 38-7 to the Buffalo Bulls.
Bowling Green moves down to 2-4 on the season as they test Miami OH at home. Buffalo is now 3-3 on the year with three straight MAC conference wins as they face UMass next week. When asked about how he kept his team’s energy and focus straight after the 0-3 start coach Linguist said, “I think it’s not what you do, but it’s not always how you do it but why you do it.” He continued saying “If your why is right and your why is strong then you really get un-phased, we have a relentless mindset in our building.”
