Brunswick Mauls North Royalton Bears 49-0

NORTH ROYALTON – The Brunswick Blue Devils are back folks, and they look extremely good and a real threat to win a state title.  The Blue Devils obliterated the North Royalton Bears in a blitzkrieg of speed and power tonight that was absolutely relentless in the 49-0 mauling.

Tonight, the Brunswick Blue Devils looked like they could hang with any team in the state as they decimated an incredible quarterback in Joey Marousek of North Royalton.  Marousek is a flame thrower that can put the Bears on his back at any time, and tonight, Marousek never had a chance.

With a relentless blitz and dominating the line of scrimmage, the Blue Devils got to Marousek for three interceptions and buried him to the turf via 5 earth pounding sacks.  The Blue Devil defense also sacked Bear backup quarterback Michael Piazza twice as well.

Brunswick had their way all game long in all three fazes of a game from the opening kickoff and never let up.  Less than 3 minutes into the game, it was quarterback Jacob Scherette finding a wide open Jake Miller from 35 yards out to open the scoring.

Then just a few moments later, following a Marousek interception, it was Scherette taking one in with his legs to build the lead to 14-0 less than 5 minutes into the game.  Suffice to say, the Bears and their fans were shell shocked.

Brunswick would not slow down in the second quarter, in fact they decided to speed up.  They would put up 28 more points in the 12-minute attack.  Two more touchdown passes, one to Jacob Dye and the other to Nick Hoover.

They would mix in touchdown runs from Nicholas Vadini of 46 yards and then another by Scherette of 8 yards to take a commanding 42-0 Halftime lead. They would finish the scoring in the fourth quarter with an 8 yard touchdown scamper by Brandon Koenig.

As said, all three phases of the Brunswick Blue Devil game were rolling in this one.  Quarterback Jacob Scherette finished by going 12 of 14 for 148 yards and 2 touchdowns.  The young man also ran for 55 yards and two more touchdowns.

Their kicker Justin Hagler blasted 6 kickoffs out of the endzone, and nailed 6 of 6 extra points by a mile.  He is being looked at by colleges all over the nation for both is soccer and football kicking skills.  Local schools after him include John Carroll, Walsh, Mount Union and Akron just to name a few.

The Blue Devils running game was also unstoppable tonight as everyone who carried the rock did extremely well.  Nicholas Vadini finished with 111 yards on only 8 carries with the touchdown.  Quintyn McKinley finished up with 52 yards on 5 carries.

While third string running back Brandon Koenig looked like a little tank piling up 43 yards and a touchdown on only 7 carries.  Simply put, they had huge holes to run through all game long and couldn’t be stopped.

North Royalton will look to rebound next week as they host the struggling Highland Hornets, meanwhile Brunswick looks to stay hot as they host Rhodes.
