Brunswick Blue Devils Defeat Medina Battling Bees 35-7 in Road Victory

Medina, Ohio – The Medina Battling Bees hosted the Brunswick Blue Devils at Ken Dukes Stadium for a conference showdown. The Blue Devils went on to secure a 35-7 week eight win over the Battling Bees on the road.

Medina started off the game with the ball on their own 20-yard line. The Blue Devils defense came out strong and forced a three and out punt, setting their offense up on the Battling Bees’ 45-yard line. Brunswick moved the ball on the ground well, but their run came to a halt after the ball was fumbled when the running back was tackled to the ground. Medina began their next drive on their own 22-yard line. Brunswick’s defense yet again held firm and forced another three and out punt, setting their offense up on their own 42-yard line. The drive alternated between the ground and the air, ultimately setting Brunswick up on Medina’s 20-yard line to kick a 35-yard field goal.

The kick went just left, resulting in a turnover and Medina taking over with the ball on their own 20-yard line. The Battling Bees came out with a different look on offense at quarterback and formations, but the Blue Devils defense read the formations well, resulting in an interception, setting Brunswick up on their own 46-yard line. On the second play of the drive, quarterback Sean Barnett launched a deep throw to wide receiver Gavin Moore to set the offense up in the red zone. Quarterback Sean Barnett took advantage of the short field and marched into the endzone for a 16-yard rushing touchdown to give the Blue Devils a 7-0 lead with 3:17 remaining in the first quarter. Medina began their next drive on their own 33-yard line. The Battling Bees held onto possession of the football going into the second quarter down 7-0. 

Medina continued their drive, but the Brunswick defense was too much sacking the quarterback deep to force a punt. Brunswick began their next drive on their own 15-yard line after a good Medina punt. A penalty on the first play of the drive moved the Blue Devils to their 30-yard line. On their next play, running back Eli Nichols turned on the jets and burst up field for a 70-yard rushing touchdown to give Brunswick a 14-0 lead with 11:01 remaining in the second quarter. Medina began their next drive on their own 20-yard line.

The Battling Bees drive was short-lived after a costly fumble set the Brunswick offense up on the Medina 37-yard line. Quarterback Sean Barnett orchestrated the offense down the field, resulting in a 4-yard rushing touchdown by running back Eli Nichols to make it a 21-0 Brunswick lead with 8:34 remaining in the second quarter. Medina and Brunswick both alternated punts on their next respective drives. Medina began their final drive of the first half on their own 27-yard line. The Battling Bees utilized the clock and made it down to the red zone with 0:03 remaining in the first half. Medina attempted a 35-yard field goal, which was blocked to end the half, sending both teams into the locker rooms with a score of 21-0 at halftime. 

Brunswick started their first drive of the second half on their own 16-yard line. The Battling Bees defense came out strong and forced a turnover on downs, setting the offense up on the Blue Devils’ 47-yard line. Feeling some momentum, Medina moved down the field and scored a 26-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Beckett Vogrin to wide receiver Sydney Lloyd to make it a 21-7 Brunswick lead with 8:30 remaining in the third quarter.

Brunswick began their next drive on their own 40-yard line. It took little to no time before the Blue Devils offense responded, scoring a 36-yard passing touchdown from quarterback Sean Barnett to wide receiver Cohen Easa to make it a 28-7 Brunswick lead with 7:03 remaining in the third quarter. Medina began their next drive on their own 20-yard line. The Battling Bees offense took the majority of the third quarter to march down into the redzone. The Medina offense went for it on fourth and short but fumbled the ball, recovered by Brunswick and resulting in a turnover on downs also. The Blue Devils offense set up shop on their own 16-yard line and held onto possession for the remainder of the third quarter, keeping a 28-7 lead going into the final quarter. 

Going into the fourth quarter, the Blue Devils made their way down the field and scored a 3-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Sean Barnett, making the score a 35-7 Brunswick lead with 9:45 remaining in the game. Medina began their next drive on their own 19-yard line. The Blue Devils defense held firm, forcing a turnover on downs and setting the offense up on the Battling Bees’ 27-yard line. Medina’s defense held firm and forced Brunswick to attempt a 49-yard field goal, which ultimately was just left, setting the Battling Bees up on their own 20-yard line. Medina held possession of the ball for quite some time, making it into Brunswick territory before ultimately being held short again. The Blue Devils defense forced a turnover on downs and ran the remainder of the clock out to take a 35-7 victory on the road.

The Brunswick Blue Devils (5-3) are looking to stay hot as they travel to Crawford Field to take on conference rivals Cleveland Heights Tigers; Kickoff at 7 PM on Friday, October 17th.

The Medina Battling Bees (2-6) look to rebound from a tough loss as they travel to Euclid Community Stadium to take on conference rivals Euclid Panthers; Kickoff at 7 PM on Friday, October 17th.
