The Browns rediscovered their running game today and it led to a 27-19 victory over their interstate rival the Cincinnati Bengals. It appears clear, when they run a double backfield of Hunt and Chubb, they do great. When they go empty backfield, nothing good is going to happen.

Nick Chubb continued to look impressive with 106 yards on only 15 carries. He now has over 1200 on the season and 6 100 plus yard games. Chubb also caught 1 pass for 11 yards.

His new backfield running mate Kareem Hunt was every bit as dangerous. The Browns are now 4-1 with Hunt on the active roster. Hunt had 9 carries for 28 yards and a touchdown. He also caught 2 balls for 40 big yards.

Mayfield had an up and down day; no touchdown tosses and two interceptions. He also had a third interception called back on a review for pass interference late.

He didn’t look sharp, and it almost cost them again. He threw for 192 yards with only 39 of them to OBJ who continues to look lost.

Mayfield and OBJ have now had 13 games to get on the same page and simply have not. Perhaps the volunteer workouts may have been wise to go to for OBJ after all?

Is it Freddie, is it OBJ or is it Baker? Who is the problem in what has become a lost season for this highly talented receiver?

The Bengals offense moved the ball at will with five scoring drives, and one being stopped at the goal line. Running back Joe Mixon piled up 146 yards on 23 carries. Quarterback Andy Dalton had all day to pass and went for 262 yards, but did have a very costly interception.

The first half was a sloppy one that saw a combined three turnovers between the teams, and several costly mistakes. Mayfield was picked off twice, and Denzel Ward took an Andy Dalton pass 61 yards the other way to score.

The game started off simple enough with the Bengals marching down the field with no issues against the Browns depleted defense for a quick three points. The field goal was from 34 yards from Randy Bullock.

The Browns looked as though they were going to answer right back with a scoring drive of their own. They too were moving the ball with ease when disaster struck. Mayfield threw a jump ball that David Njoku appeared to come up with, however he was stripped of the ball on the way down and it was back with the Bengals.

Replays would show that the Browns got ripped off on the call, but it just seems like it has been that kind of year. They simply cannot win a review this year.

However, Karma would finally go their way as a few moments later it was Denzel Ward taking a tipped pass the 61 yards for a pick six. It was a very rare defensive big play for the Browns this season but came at the perfect time.

The Bengals were unphased and went on to score the next 10 points on their following two possessions. First with a 44 yad field goal from Bullock. The next score coming on a 1-yard touchdown rumble by Joe Mixon to put the Bengals ahead 13-7.

This time it was the Browns bookending scores as they capped off a long drive with a Mayfield 7-yard touchdown scramble to put them back up 14-13 with 6:37 to go in the half.

Despite only rushing 3 times for 7 yards in the first half, the Browns finally woke up and gave the ball to Nick Chubb a steady amount in the second half.

Including a long 57-yard run to start the half and set up a Kareem Hunt 3-yard run to put the Browns ahead 21-13. The teams would then swap two pairs of field goals each to close the game 27-19.

The Browns, now 6-7 will look to get back to even next week as they travel to Arizona to take on the Cardinals. That will not be an easy task as the Browns always struggle there.

  1. Not going to win with Mayfield as 25 back! Can we say Brady Quinn, Colt McCoy, Johnny Manzell. He is very overatted in my opinion!
