On a cold 39 degree day, the varsity baseball team gained their second win of the seaosn by rallying from behind and scoring four runs in the top of the 7th inning to defeat Conerstone Christian Academy by the score of 13 to 11.
The Hurricanes had 15 hits in the victory. The action came in the 7th inning when Jeremiah Gonzalez ripped a double over the head of the right fielder. Athnony Star was intentionally walked. After stealing third and second base, Cornerstone chose to intentionally walk Aiden Starr to put the winning run on base. Jackson Diller battles off pithes to earn another walk which brought the Hurricanes one run away from evening the score. The next batter Angel Hernandez hit an infield ground ball to score Anthony Starr to tie up the game. Nate Wilson blew the game open when he hit a two run single into center field giving the Hurricanes a 13-11 lead. In the bottom of the 7th inning, James Trunkett strikes out the first batter and fields the ground ball of the second batter of the inning to give Brooklyn two outs. The game finally ended when trunkett stuck out Cornerstone’s top batter to seal the win.
Offensive highlights include Jeremiah Gonzalez, Derrick Wrost and Nate Wilson all having three hits on the day while Anthony Starr and Angel Hernandez each had two hits. The team looks to finally begin thier home schedule as Independence High School comes to town to battle the the Hurricnaes tomorrow afternnon. |
