by Garrettsville, Ohio – The visiting Brookfield Warriors clinched the MVAC Grey division title with a 35-14 win over host Garfield Friday night.
Brookfield got on the board first when senior quarterback Donovan Pawlowski found Brett Carcone for a 40-yard touchdown toss. This put the Warriors up 7-0 with 6:53 left in the first.
Garfield responded with a march down the field of their own, capping their drive with a one-yard touchdown run from Keegan Sell. After a successful PAT, the game was tied at 7 with 4:28 left in the first.
Brookfield would find the end zone once again, when Pawlowski found junior wide receiver Aiden Jones wide open for a 40-yard touchdown reception. This put the Warriors in front, 14-7, with 2:28 to go in the first.
After forcing a punt, Brookfield got down to the Garfield 20, but the G-Men defense turned them away. The Warriors defense forced a punt of their own and started deep in their own territory.
It took only one play to add to their margin. Donovan Pawlowski found Aiden Jones for an 84-yard touchdown toss. This increased the Warrior lead to 21-7 with 5:23 left in the second quarter.
Senior linebacker AJ Bartolin came up with a fumble recovery for the Brookfield defense late in the first half.
Garrettsville Garfield got a huge play on defense.
Senior Vincent Grandazio picked off a pass and took it 35 yards to pay dirt early in the second half. This cut the G-Men deficit to 21-14 with 9:35 left in the third quarter.
The Brookfield defense came with another huge play. AJ Bartolin picked off a pass and returned it deep into G-Men territory. Pawlowski found Aiden Jones for a 14-yard touchdown late in the third, increasing their lead to 28-14.
Pawlowski would connect one more time with Aiden Jones for a one-yard touchdown with 2:13 left to cap the scoring.
Brookfield (8-1, 6-0 MVAC Grey) hosts Champion next week to close the regular season.
Garr. Garfield (7-2, 5-1 MVAC Grey) hosts Youngstown Liberty to close the regular season.
