The Berea-Midpark Titans began the second year under head coach Kevin McNamara and the first year with freshman sensation Reagan Braaten who scored 26 points in her varsity debut as the Titans topped the Valley Forge Pirates 52-14 at home. 15 of those game high 26 points came in a dominant first half. Folks, we were blessed to cover the incredible talent is her older sister Kendall Braaten, and now we get four years of Reagan who instantly appears to be the real deal!

Big things are also expected out of junior captain Rylee Szojka and she didn’t disappoint with 9 big points on opening night. It is her second season in this system and we look for her to be a leader on the court for this young Titan team.

The Titans showed incredible patience and ball control around the 3 point line to open the game as they had the ball for 35 plus seconds trying to find that open shot, after a few misses and offensive rebounds, it was Taylor Kowalewski finding the bottom of the net from long distance in the corner, to get the Titans cranking and light the fuse for the quarter, and game. The game remained 3-0 for about two minutes until the Titans struck again with two foul shots from Braaten.

The Patriots first bucket wouldn’t come until 3:47 was left to play in the opening quarter, on a nice put back to cut into the Titans lead at 5-2 as Berea-Midpark hadn’t made a field since the first minute of the game.  The cold streak for the Titans ended shortly after however as they finished the first quarter on a 8-0 run thanks in part to a foul shot and fast break from Szojka, a layup from Emma Arnold and a three pointer from Braaten.  The NBA distance three ball from Braaten closed out the first quarter with Berea-Midpark up 13-2 and rolling.

The second quarter began with a lid on the rim once again, as exactly 1:58 ticked off the clock before a Patriot fast break bucket began the scoring, cutting the Titan lead to 13-4. From there however, it was all Berea-Midpark as they went on a 18-0 run over the next six minutes in dominant fashion to put the game away by halftime, up 31-4.

The six-minute Titan explosion was sparked by another Braaten NBA range three pointer.  From there, she would drain another three as the Titans also got points from Szjoka, Kowalewski, Lauren Lantow and Nichols-Price.  The points from Kowaleski and Szjoka coming from the foul line.

The Titans cruised from there for the 52-14 win.  They will be off until December 2nd when they host Euclid.
