The Titans showed all kinds of heart today, coming back from an early fourth quarter deficit to overcome the Amherst Comets 58-52. The Titans pulled off the come from behind win thanks to a monster fourth quarter that saw them outscore the Comets 19-11 while also sinking foul shots.
Games are often won and lost from the line, and tonight Junior Sharp Shooter Lauren Yee nailed 13 of 15 from the charity stripe including a perfect 8 for 8 in their tremendous fourth quarter to lead the Titans with 23 points.
The game was extremely tight throughout as the Titans led by 1 after one quarter of play, and then both teams sat tied at halftime, 25 apiece.
As mentioned, the Comet started the fourth quarter with a slim 41-39 lead after a Kristen Kelley layup in the closing seconds of the third gave Amherst the lead. Natalie Pleban would then come right out and drain a three pointer in the early seconds of the fourth quarter to extend the Comets lead to 44-39 as she hit one from long range with a hand in her face.
Now down five, the Titans needed to answer and would do so with a Lauren Lantow three ball on the very next possession to cut the lead to 44-42. Lantow was lights out from beyond the arc tonight with 12 of her 14 points coming from long distance.
From there, a Courtney Simon field goal would tie the game for the Titans, and put the momentum squarely on the shoulders of Berea-Midpark as the fourth quarter rally was underway. Lantow would then give the Titans the lead for good as she torched the bottom of the net with another three ball to make it 47-44 Titans with 5:45 left to play. The Titans outscored the Comets 11-9 from there to hand on for the big win.
