The Berea-Midpark Titans earned their fourth win of the season last night with an impressive 54-42 victory over Brunswick. The Titans overcame and early deficit and foul trouble, with hot shooting, great passing and relentless hustle.
Leading the way for Berea-Midpark was Lindsey Seballos with 19, including 15 from long range, and 2 from the charity stripe. Lauren Yee had a big second half with 10 points, which led to 12 overall for the exciting Sophomore. Jenna Bycznski overcame some early foul trouble to also have a big second half and finish with 8.
The Brunswick Blue Devils jumped out to a 11-4 lead thanks in part to sharp shooting from Courtney Goessler, Samantha Kim and Jordyn Wickles burying three balls. The Titans hung tough and kept it close thanks to buckets by Talyssa Moody and Lauren Yee along with two foul shots by Lindsey Seballos. The quarter would end with the Blue Devils up 11-6. It was a tightly contested quarter by the refs as both Jenna Bycznski and Courtney Gessler picked up two each.
After four straight points by Wickles to start the second quarter gave Brunswick a 15-6 lead, the Titans decided that was enough of that, and took things over. Lindsey Seballos went off for 11 points, including 9 from beyond the arc in the next 4 minutes. Courtney Simon also drained a 3 ball as the Titans went on a 14 – 2 run to take their first lead of the game at 20-17. While Seballos still had to make the shots, you cannot take anything away from the excellent passing and unselfish play of the Titans to continue to get her open!
The first half would end all tied up at 20-20. The leading scorers were Seballos with 13 for Berea-Midpark and Jordyn Wickles with 7 for Brunswick.
The third quarter was a scoring explosion from both teams as they began to get and stay red hot. Seballos nailed another two 3 balls as part of a 21-point third quarter put up by the Titans. Lauren Yee owned the lane for 6 points as she weaved in and out with ease. Jenna Bycznski controlled the paint as well, posting up for 4.
Brunswick had their moments as well, scoring 15 in the quarter. They were led by Journey Hildebrand with 4 and Katie Jarold with 5. Watch out for Hildebrand as she is only a Freshman, but has an outstanding court presence.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Titans as Yee and Bycznski combined for 8 more as the Titans secured the 54-42 victory. The Titans will now take their show on the road this weekend at Amherst on Saturday at 1:30.
