by Berea, OH –The Berea-Midpark Titans defeated Elyria 44-15 at home on senior night in a lopsided affair. Backup quarterback Dylan Papushak checked in early for a banged up Vince Weaver and proceeded to toss 4 first half touchdown passes in the big win as the Titans offense was cooking early and often. The Titans will now look to to improve to 6-4 next week against Avon Lake and solidify a first round home playoff game.
After stopping the Pioneers on downs, the Titans took over near midfield. A 39-yard strike to Reece set the Titans up to score as it brought the ball down to the goal line. From there, Tamang took it in to set the Titans up with a 6-0 lead.
The Pioneers had a great chance to score on their next drive near the goal line, but it was snuffed out with a big sack from Christian Vigilante. On the next Titan drive, Papushak found Tyson Clay along the sidelines where Clay not only made a juggling catch but then danced along the sidelines and cut towards the middle of the field where he jetted towards the endzone.
It was an amazing 64-yard touchdown strike that will live on highlight films for years. This handed the Titans a 13-0 lead with 1:03 to play in the first quarter. Not much longer after that score, the Titans tacked on another one to increase the lead to 19-0 with 11:04 to play in the first half.
The Titans kept cooking with a one play drive up next, this time it was Papushak hitting Clay on a slant that he cut through the middle of the defense and took it to the house again. The Titans now led 25-0 with 8:37 left to play in the first half.
The Pioneers responded with a double digit play drive to cash in with a 3-yard touchdown sneak by Pride, to get them on the board at 25-7 with 3:14 left to play in the first half. The Titans responded with Papushaks 4th touchdown pass of the first half to bring a 31-7 lead into halftime. They went to cruise to the 44-15 victory from there.
