In a clash of west side versus east side, the Berea-Midpark Titans fell to the Gilmour Academy Lancers 72-59 in a high scoring contest.
Tyson Clay of the Titans showed his speed and athletic ability with a coast to coast layup as the Titans got off to an early 6-point lead midway through the first quarter. Whilst the Titans were scoring buckets, the Lancers were snatching boards thanks to 6’4″ senior forward David Pfundstein. In an exciting back-and-forth first quarter, the Lancers led the Titans 15-11 behind Brayden Titas’ 6 points.
The Lancers played superb team basketball throughout the 2nd quarter with key bench points from Atkinson and Steiner. Clay from the Titans quietly had himself a good 1st half leading his team with 10 points including two three-pointers.
In a back and forth first half thanks to scoring from Titas and Alexander of the Titans, the score was 34-32 Lancers.
Gilmour widened its lead in the 3rd quarter, with 5:00 to go a couple Lancer 3-pointers helped extend the lead to 9 points. In this tug-of-war the Lancers had an answer for every Titans bucket.
In a rather low scoring third quarter, the Lancers maintained their lead and extended it, bringing the score to 49-42 with a minute left.
Manny Santiago of the Titans hit two three-pointers coming off the bench, but the Titans had no answers on defense. At the end of 3, 56-45 Lancers.
The Lancers’ bench came alive in the 4th quarter, with Atkinson scoring multiple buckets. Pfundstein went on a scoring barrage from the free throw line going up strong in the paint.
Santiago continued to have a quiet night off the bench scoring 10 points while his teammate Nick Reece scored 13. The Lancers were able to outlast the Titans in the end though, as late game heroics were not enough.
