Benedictine defeats Aurora 94-54, advances to Stow District final

Stow, Ohio- Senior forward and Bowling Green commit Davin Zeigler scored 20 points to lead all scorers as Benedictine led from wire-to-wire Thursday evening, defeating Aurora, 94-54.

The Bengals jumped out to an 11-0 lead early on, with buckets from Zeigler and Barba, and would only increase their lead from there, as several contributors made shots from the outside and the inside, to the raucous approval of the Benedictine student section.

Junior forward Andy Barba added 13 points of his own, doing the majority of his damage inside the paint.

“It feels great to get the win. We’re excited to play Saturday. Our team did great and the fans came out and did their thing.” said Barba.
“It feels really good to be back. It feels good to make it this far back and keep competing, and I wouldn’t rather do it with any other group of guys.” said Zeigler.

In addition to Zeigler and Barba, five additional players scored in double figures for the Bengals. Junior guard Eric Buckner had 12 points, senior forward Kevin Bishop had 11, and sophomore guard B.J. Busbee, junior guard Jashun Cobb, and senior forward Rory Kilbane each had ten points to aid the winning effort.

“This is kind of like our home away from home since I’ve been here. We’ve had some great success in this district.” said Benedictine head coach Rob Stricula. “The ball was moving. It was popping like it was supposed to, and guys were hitting when they were supposed to. We made shots because the ball came to us when it was supposed to. When that happens, we’re tough to beat.” he added.

In a losing effort, Aurora sophomore forward Ethan Hayes had 19 points to lead the Greenmen.
