Beachwood opens up 2021 campaign with 7-0 shutout win over Crestwood

Beachwood, Ohio – Senior pitcher/first baseman Jordan Levin struck out nine batters on the mound, and knocked in four runs at the plate Saturday afternoon, helping host Beachwood to a 7-0 victory over visiting Crestwood.

Beachwood jumped ahead, 1-0, in the bottom of the second, thanks to a run batted in on a groundball. The next inning, Jordan Levin knocked in two runs with a single to increase the lead to 3-0.

The Bison added a run in the fifth off a passed ball, and three more in the sixth.

Luke Bennett beat out a groundball, and Jordan Levin hit a two-run single to left field for the final margin. This, along with his two-run single in the third inning to put Beachwood up 3-0, helped to aid the winning effort.

“It feels great that we got to get out here and play today.” said Levin. “My location is what helps me through my outings, and my catcher, Brendan Malek, called a great game.”

Beachwood plays host to Trinity Monday afternoon for their second contest of the season.

“Jordan (Levin) walks in with a business-like approach and gets better every day at practice. He plays the game the right way and does everything we ask him to. I know we’re just scratching the surface.” said Bison head coach Andy Pohl.

Crestwood Junior pitcher Jacob Dustman threw five innings, giving up four runs on three hits and striking out four. He had one of the Red Devils’ two hits on the game.

“It was great to be out here today. Beachwood’s got a great facility and coach Andy (Pohl) has done a nice job with the program.” said Crestwood head coach John Bakalar. “Even though it didn’t go the way we wanted it to, we’re happy to be out here.”

Crestwood has a home-and-home next week against Kirtland to continue their campaign.
