BAY VILLAGE, OH – The Bay Village Rockets hosted the University School Preppers for a battle of the East and West sides of Cleveland. University School walked away with a nice victory on a final score of 28-7.
In the 1st quarter, University School decided to show Bay Village what they were all about. The first quarter flew by for the Preppers while Bay Village tried to get their feet on the ground.
Immediately, University School took a timeout at 11:21 into the game. Following the timeout and a big reception, quarterback Jackson Boland scored the first touchdown of the night (7-0). After shutting down Bay Village’s rushing attack, University School forced an interception. Senior Ryan Pattison hauled it in and the big play turned into six for the Preppers. Matteo Morelli made the ensuing PAT, making the score 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was much more even than the first. A 22-yard carry by Ryan Pattison moved University School to the 43-yard line. Pattison quickly added another touchdown to the scoreboard. This made the score 21-0 at 9:11 in the second quarter.
Bay Village senior Carson Gergye broke off a 43-yard return, setting up a 1st and 10 from the 47-yard line. Senior quarterback Tony Buttari scored the Rockets only touchdown on the night and senior kicker Million Evans tacked on the PAT.
University School maintained the 21-7 advantage at the half.
It was a slow moving third quarter for both teams. No touchdowns were made on either side of the field. Bay Village missed two touchdown opportunities, giving the ball back to University School.
The third quarter wrapped up with the same score as halftime.
Following the slow moving third quarter was still a sluggish fourth quarter. Bay Village had a false start on the opening play, showing their antsiness.
University School junior George Minello carried the ball for 12 yards, placing the Preppers at the 23-yard line. Nearing the end of the game, Bay Village called a time-out at 4:22. University School junior Lex Kekic then scored his first touchdown of the game. That rounded out the scoring on the night and University School wrapped up the 28-7 victory on the road.
