Bay Boys Cross Country Has Perfect Day at Bay Rocket Cross Country Invitational

Per Jack Hautz

Last Saturday, the Boys Cross Country Team hosted the Bay Rockets Invitational at Cahoon Park. From top to bottom, all the boys ran gutsy races. In dominant fashion, the varsity boys completed a perfect sweep against tough division 1 schools, St. Ignatius and Amherst. Leading the charge for the rockets was Michael Hanselman who took the individual crown for a 1st place finish in a time of 15:52.

Following close behind was Connor Spellman who placed 2nd and also cracked the 16 minute barrier in a time of 15:58. Up next for the Rockets in 3rd place overall was 11th grader, Kieran Ripley, who ran an impressive early PR of 16:22. Ripley, who has been working tirelessly all summer, established himself as one of the top area runners by running thhis mark early in the year. Another Rocket who had a dominant race was Spencer Grace who ran a new lifetime best of 16:35 for a 4th place overall finish.

Rounding out the scoring for the Rockets was another breakthrough performance by Sacha Jones who went 16:51 to just edge out another competitor for 5th place overall. Sacha’s guts at the end led to a perfect team score of 15 points. For those who are not familiar, scoring 15 points in cross country is like bowling a 300, it’s a perfect score. Coming in 6th for the varsity lineup was standout Freshman Liam Jager with an impressive time of 17:14.

Rounding off the top 7 was Peyton Meyers who had another solid performance with a time of 17:38. Up next for the rockets was 8th man, Stephen Murphy, with an impressive PR of 17:55. This marks Stephen’s first time dipping below the 18 minute barrier and securing himself a varsity letter. Our success continued into the open race.

Adrian Ray led the way with his first sub 19 performance. Michael Taylor and Dan Buttrick both dipped below 21:30 for the first time and are both well on their way to get into the 20s. Dawson Miller Improved off of his previous PR from only a few days prior by 30 seconds to run a time of 25:00.

They Bay Boys are set to compete against top Division 1 talent next weekend at the AVon Lake Earlybird.
