Bay advances to districts with 42-34 win over Beaumont in sectional final

Bay Village, Ohio – The Bay Lady Rockets advanced to the district round, defeating the Beaumont Blue Streaks, 42-34.

Bay took the lead from the opening tip thanks to a basket from Madelyn Lee. From there, the Rockets had three other players find the scorebook, taking a 14-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second, they would expand their lead thanks to a trio of triples. Norah Trefz knocked down two in the second quarter, for a total of 11 points in the first half. Junior Anna Weingart added the other, giving Bay a 29-17 lead at the break.

Chloe Kazma drew contact for a bucket to open up the third quarter, giving the Lady Rockets their largest lead at 31-17. Their only other bucket came with about a minute left in the stanza when Caroline Chilton blocked a layup attempt and found Norah Trefz at the other end. The defense held its end, holding Beaumont to six points in the stanza, and keeping a 33-23 lead after three.

The Blue Streaks were not done, going on an 8-2 run in the fourth quarter. A triple from freshman Avery Krebs trimmed the Bay lead to 35-31. It was as close as Beaumont would get the rest of the way. The Rockets would respond with a Chloe Kazma basket to increase their lead to six. They would add a basket from Anna Spellman and three free throws to hang on for the victory.

Senior Norah Trefz had 13 points for the Lady Rockets. Freshman Chloe Kazma added ten, and junior Anna Weingart had eight.

Beaumont was led by senior Claire Reavis, who scored 13 points, followed by junior Savannah Triggs with ten.
