It is that time of the season. Tuesday MACTION is back in full effect in Kent State. This will be Kent State’s first game since the Wagon Wheel. How would Kent State do against the 4-4 Ball State Cardinals?
Kent State played without Dante Cephas and after the first quarter Devontez Walker was out as well. But after the first quarter the Golden Flashes went up 13-0. It looked like it may be an easy victory for the Flashes. Then Ball State would go on to score the next 20 points in the game.
Kent State would not score again until 6:08 left in the fourth quarter. In the 27-20 loss for the sixth loss of the season.
Players for the game for the Golden Flashes are Ja’Shaun Poke and Marquez Cooper. Cooper finished the game with 32 carries and 168 rushing yards, and a touchdown. Poke finished the game with 13 receptions and 87 yards, as he stepped up for the Golden Flashes with Cepahs and Walker out.
The players of the game on the Ball State side of things are John Paddock and Carson Steele. Paddock finished the game with 242 passing yards and 2 touchdown passes. Then Steele ran the ball down the Flashes throat, finishing with 192 yards, a long of 37 yards and a touchdown.
This is the sixth loss of the season and this puts the Flashes in a very tough position. To remain bowl eligible the Golden Flashes are going to need to win the next three final games against Bowling Green next week. Then Eastern Michigan, and to close out the season against Buffalo.
It looks very grim for the Flashes after tonight’s loss. As the season has progressed it seems as though they have gotten worse and worse, especially after an impressive showing against the defending national champions.
A season where in the preseason polls, this was a team that many had thought would win the MAC championship. The team would be fortunate now to go to a bowl game. Not what many had expected with this team. Coach Sean Lewis to start the season had said that their goals were all the same regardless of the quarterback change.
The next three games will be very telling for this team. There is still a chance this team goes on a three game winning streak to close out the season. How will the Golden Flashes respond after the tough loss, and the ending of the home winning streak?
The Golden Flashes have eight days to prepare for the next game against the 4-4 Bowling Green Falcons. The Falcons are a surprise team this season. It will be interesting to see how Kent State comes out and plays after tonight’s loss.
