Overview:
Ball State is coming off a year that was not good or bad. They were bottom of the MAC West with a five hundred record before bowl season. They enter the year with a group of QB’s with little to no experience coming into this season. John Paddock is the projected started coming into the year. Marcus Steele is the projected starter in the backfield as a sophomore, he could push past the 1,000-yard rushing mark this year. The WR room is missing their all-time leading receiver but add some transfers to hopefully fill the void that will be missing. The best part about this team is the defensive line, which being said they are only returning five starters from last season so they could take a big step back.
Dom’s Overview:
Ball State is a team that could win six games again like last season and still finish at the very bottom of the MAC West due to how strong that side of the conference is. I am interested to see how John Paddock will play this season; he has never seen real playing time. He does not have bad options at WR but it is not the same as it was just a season ago since losing majority of their starters. The run game by Carson Steele should open things up for the passing offense as the running game should be the best part about the offense. The offensive will need to put up major points this season due to defense rebuilding from losing a lot of starters last season.
Prediction:
The non-conference schedule could put Ball State into a bowl game due to only playing one power five team this season. Tennessee, Murry State, Georgia Southern, and Connecticut make up the non-conference schedule as the Cardinals could walk away with three wins. The conference schedule for the Cardinals might be the toughest one compared to any other MAC team. They play the entire West but also the two top teams from the East in Miami and Kent State. At the very best I can see Ball State finishing the year with six wins while their worst will be three wins. I see them as underdogs in all but two games this season.
