Avon Uses Strong Rushing Attack To Defeat Highland 35-14

Avon, OH – The Avon Eagles have a very balanced rushing attack with multiple threats.  Tonight they used all of them as they cruised to a 35-14 victory at home over Highland to advance in the playoffs.  The Eagles will now host Garrett Lubtiz, Joey Labas and the Brecksville Broadview Heights Bee’s next weekend in a major clash.

Tailback Devon Hunter was a man amongst boys out there tonight as he rushed for a game high 120 yards on just 13 carries while scoring 3 times.  He also had a sack on defense, and caught a pass for 22 yards as well.  Hunter did it all tonight and the Hornets didn’t have an answer.

Niko Pappas used his lighting speed from the pocket by rushing for 110 yards and a touchdown on only 5 carries.  This quarterback is one of the very best not only in the SWC but the state when it comes to running the RPO.  He also threw for 137 yards on 7 of 12 passing.

Gavin Ehrhardt joined the rush parade tonight as well as he took his first carry of the game 18 yards to make it 7-0 Avon with 7:55 to go in the first quarter.  Moments later it was Devon Hunter speeding through for 29 yards to make it 14-0.

Hunter had just made the 22-yard catch to set up the touchdown run.  Niko Pappas would use a 36 yard RPO to find paydirt early into the second quarter to increase the Eagle to 21-0.

Down big, the Hornets began a comeback as a 1-yard Lukas Stiles run capped off a long Hornet drive to cut the lead to 21-7.  The Eagles fumbled the ensuing kickoff and gave the Hornets some hope and much needed energy.  A few plays later they would cash in on the mistake as quarterback Aaron Philips hit four straight passes, before finding Max Kohman in the endzone to cut the lead to 21-14.

Max Kohman would finish with 5 catches for 53 yards with the touchdown.  Lukas Stiles was the big playmaker tonight for Highland as he took 22 carries for 102 yards and a touchdown. The Hornets struggled for quick offense tonight, and relied on long methodical drives when they could.

Up 21-14, the Eagles would turn to a no huddle offense early into the second half and began to put the game away.  Hunter had two third quarter touchdown runs to put it away for good at 35-14.

The player of our game comes from the defensive side of the ball however, as Kaya Yonkers got dinged up early but came back to have 3 sacks and nearly a dozen tackles.

Next week Eagles vs Bee’s is cannot miss!
