North Ridgeville- Avon improved their record to 5-0 and handed the Rangers their first lost at 4-1.  The Eagles overcame the early turnover bug to score on a stretch of 5 straight possessions over the 2nd,3rd and 4th quarters.  Had it not been for a blocked punt against them they would have possibly won 38-0.  The true Supermen of the night were the Avon Eagle defense that shut out the Ranger offense, and didn’t allow any points.

The Eagles had some big plays in the passing game tonight led by quarterback Nolan Good who overcame an interception of the Eagles first drive to finish with 228 yards on 12 of 18 passing.  Good finished with two touchdown passes as well.  Good, was a force on the ground with a touchdown and 48 yards.

His main threats in the air were the dynamic duo of Cole Kepner who had 3 catches for 68 yards and a score while Matt Maxey tallied 7 catches for 137 yards with a touchdown. Tailback Jakorion Caffey rumbled for 111 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns.

Sadly, for the Rangers, their starting quarterback Cole Miller got dinged up early, and they just couldn’t seem to get it going on offense tonight.  Charlie Steinmetz had some pockets of flash however as he finished with 3 catches for 50 yards and rushed the ball for 50 yards as well.

Avon overcame two first quarter turnovers to take a 7-0 lead in the closing seconds of the first quarter.  The score came on a 49-yard touchdown strike from Nolan Good to Cole Kepner.  The Rangers failed to capitalize on the interception and fumbled punt they forced in the opening quarter.

The North Ridgeville defense and special teams stepped up once again.  First, a punt placed the ball on the Avon 1.  A few plays later, an Eagle punt was blocked and recovered by North Ridgeville in the endzone by Xavier Compton to tie the game at 7-7.

It wasn’t tied long however as on the ensuing drive, Nolan Good launched a deep ball to Matt Maxey for a 52-yard touchdown strike.  Maxey caught the ball about 20 yards down the field, and just took off making Rangers miss.  This handed the Eagles a 14-7 lead with 4:52 to play in the opening half. The Ranger defense and special teams were keeping the Rangers in it, but the Eagles kept showing that quick strike ability.

The Eagles went on to punch it in one more time before the half, as a 70-yard drive was capped off with a 2-yard Nolan Good touchdown run.  It was set up by a 21 yard hook up to Maxey and a 24-yard Caffey run to set them up for the score and the 21-7 halftime lead. Avon scored on 3 of their 4 last first half possessions, with the only one they didn’t score on, was the one that started at their one.

Things went from bad to worse for the Rangers as the Eagles began the second half by recovering a onside kick. A few plays later it was Caffey punching it in from 5 yards out to extend the lead to 28-7.

The Avon offense attack continued to soar the next time they touched the ball, with a 60 yard plus drive on the legs of Caffey who did the bulk of the damage.  The drive also featured a 34-yard run from Good.  In the end, it was more points for Avon as they extended the lead again, 35 – 7.  For the Eagles, it was four straight drives with touchdowns.

A 24-yard Owen Warrick field goal would put it away for good in the fourth quarter as the running clock began with an Eagle 38-7 lead with 11:40 left in the game.

The players of the game were

Avon RB Jakorion Caffey who rumbled for 111 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns.

Avon WR Matt Maxey tallied 7 catches for 137 yards with a touchdown.
