Avon Lake looked to show off their offensive power this week after a tight game against Strongsville the previous week. Brecksville-Broadview Heights wanted to bounce back after starting the season 0-1. The Bees had the crowd behind them as the Shoreman sailed their way to the Hive.
The Bees had the ball first but failed to gain any momentum behind junior QB Logan Doskocil. The Shoremen pass rush was too much for Doskocil as they had to punt deep from their own end. The punt team for the Bees struggled today as they continuously made errors.
The Shoreman got the ball with a short field and ran the ball right through the Bees defense. Jason Krukowski had himself a day after struggling week one. He found open gaps for the Shoreman as his offensive line was able to dominate the line of scrimmage. Krukowski scored the first two touchdowns of the day for Avon Lake with a two-yard and four-yard run on the goal line of the Bees.
The Bees couldn’t get any offense behind either QB, as sophomore QB Colin Seibert struggled on his drives as well. The Bees tried to get their pass game going behind the strong-armed Seibert, but going 3 for 13 with one interception won’t get the job done.
Avon Lake would then increase the lead to 20-0 on a one-yard QB sneak from junior QB Jeremey Dzik. The Bees defense tried to stay strong but a safety from their punt team on the ensuing drive kept them out on the field longer than expected.
After a run dominant first quarter by the Shoremen, Dzik finally had an opportunity to show off his arm by launching a 49-yard touchdown pass to his favorite target Matthew Stuewe. Dzik quickly led his team back down the field and tossed a short pass to last week’s star Isaac Richardson.
The final Shoremen touchdown of the day once again came from the arm of Dzik to increase the lead to 41-0.
Avon Lake rolled out the second string early in the third quarter, ending Dzik’s day at 14 for 21 with 244 yards and 3 touchdowns. His main target was Stuewe, as he received the majority of the passes from Dzik.
The Bees did not show up to be shut out though, as Doskocil would run the offense for the rest of the night. Doskocil would score two touchdowns with his feet as he rushed for 11 yards and threw for 43 yards, while going 4-10 with an interception on the night.
The Brecksville-Broadview Heights Bees start off the season 0-2 as they struggle to find an identity on offense. They look to create an identity next week after finding their offensive groove late in the second half.
The Avon Lake Shoremen sail on to 2-0 as they dominated the game in all three phases of the game. The short yardage running game carried them early while Dziks arm closed out the game in the second half.
Matthew Stuewe of Avon Lake was our player of the game. Stuewe tallied two touchdowns, including a 49-yard TD, had well over 100 yards receiving and received the vast majority of the targets at receiver for the Shoreman.
