PARMA, OH – The visiting Avon Lake Shoregals took control early and weathered a second quarter comeback to defeat Padua 15-7 in lacrosse action tonight.  The Shoregals received five goals from their sensational sophomore midfielder Kendall Holley who was on fire.  They also received hat tricks from both Jenna Pashayan and Nina Marinelli.  The Shoregals were helped out with goals from Eliose Kolofer with two while Elaina Manfred and Lila Krawiec as well.

For the Bruins, they received quite the spark from Ava Bonfilli with a hat trick, while Emma Takacs had two goals and Anna Kwiatkowski had one, as did Smilia Cohagan.

Padua jumped out to an early 1-0 lead only 54 seconds into the match when Ava Bonfilli drilled in a powerful free possession shot to get things going for the Bruins. The Shoregals wasted no time answering with goals by Pashayan, Holley twice and Marinelli twice for a 5-goal blitzkrieg of points to take a commanding 5-1 lead, just halfway through the first quarter. The scored remained 5-1 Avon Lake after one quarter of action.

The second quarter started with more Avon Lake scoring, just seconds in as Marinelli found the net yet again as the Bruins simply had no answers to stop it.  Padua began to crawl back in it for a moment a few minutes later when Takacs used some fancy stickwork to score, cutting the lead to 6-2.  It remained 6-2 – for a while until a free possession goal by Kendall Holley increased the Shoregals lead to 7-2 with a little over 4 minutes to play in the first half.

Padua remained diligent and wouldn’t go down without a fight, as just 90 seconds later, it was Padua Bruin Smilla Cohagan going low to get one past the Shoreman goalie cutting the lead back to 4 at 7-3 with 2:31 left in the first half. The Bruin comeback trail continued about a minute later when this time, it was Anna Kwiatkowski finding an opening in the net space to cut the lead to 7-4 and give Padua serious life.

The Bruins weren’t done yet however, as now with all the momentum, they just kept coming.  This time, some beautiful passing led to a great charge from Emma Takacs who went full speed at the net to score, cutting the lead to 7-5 at the break, in what was suddenly a very close game.

Any chance of a major Bruin comeback was squashed only seconds into the second half when Kolofer took the opening faceoff in for a goal, lighting the fuse for a big second half.  The Shoregals received two more goals from Pahsayan in the next two minutes, to blow the game wide open in their favor, 10-5.  The Shoregals went on to score two more times before the quarter was over to take a 12-5 victory home to Avon Lake.

The Shoregals cruised from there for the 15-7 win.  The Bruins next travel to NDCL this Wednesday as they look for their second victory of the season. The Shoregals will look to stay hot as they travel to Cleveland Hts this coming Thursday.
