Avon Lake had 12 girls on the bench tonight for their game against Berea Midpark. Every single girl on the bench played meaningful minutes and 10 of them got their name in the score book in their 67-39 win.

The game started out slow as neither team could find the bottom of the net for the first two minutes. After the lids came off Claire Springer and Lauren Yee went back and forth with layups to bring the score to 15-10 Avon Lake after one.

Avon Lake would push their lead out in the second quarter, and it started with their defense. The Titans really wanted to use motion to create driving lanes, but the Shoregals were not having it. Coach Appel said his girls were “locked in defensively” and that was very true. They took a 30-20 lead into the locker room behind nine points from Claire Springer. Rylee Szojka led the way for the Titans with six.

The Shoregals came out of the locker room hot from three. Brynn Bondar hit two threes and Marisa Summerfield hit one to push the lead out. The great defense continued to show, and they led 51-33 after three.

The lead was large, but the Shoregals didn’t seem happy with it. They would out score the Titans 16-6 in the final quarter to put an exclamation point on a big win. Lauren Yee and Rylee Szojka would both finish with 11 points for the Titans and played hard all night, but it was just not enough.

Avon Lake had ten girls score and had four in double figures. Brynn Bondar, Marisa Summerfield, Bre Jones, and Claire Springer would all score at least ten with Springer leading with 13. Coach Appel said, “it makes it a lot easier to coach when you have all that depth” and that is very true. The whole team stays ready for their chance and this roster is very complete and it showed tonight.

  1. I can’t stand watching my Titans lose night in and night out. How we go from winning 15 plus games last year to 1 win this year. I know we have had some injuries but this is embarrassing. I love coach Mac but man it looks like these girls have threw in the towel. I don’t know if they aren’t prepared or they just e given up.There body language tells me something’s up . Keep clawing away girls it will get better. Titan strong 💪

  2. ☝️ leave coach Mac alone dude is a good guy. He cares about his kids. He helped me out a lot. We go way back and he a good man. He help anyone out in need. Don’t hate in my guy he trying hard. As far as coaching I always said he ain’t a good coach , he run his lips a lot about what he does and it bites him in the butt…. Go get ‘em Mac . Don’t listen to the haters 1-15 or whatever you good peoples. #macproud
