The Avon Eagles soared to a 60-24 win today over Elyria. It was a defensive matinee masterpiece by the Eagles for the home fans who took Monday off to catch it live. Who needs go to work when we have SWC Girls Basketball to watch?
The Eagles smothering defense held Elyria to 3 points in the first quarter and only 1 in the fourth as part of a defensive gem. Sanders led Elyria with 10, other than that however they couldn’t get much going.
As for the Eagle offensive attack, they more than rebounded from a rough shooting night last week against Westlake to come out firing today. Abby Liber led all scorers with 19 while Alyssa Peganoff had 9 and Alyssa McLelon banked 7 points.
It was Brooke Laub with 8 tonight including 6 from long range for the sharp shooter. Ryan Clapham had 6, Anna Fitch 3, while Catie Geiger, Kiley Williams, Grace Santee and Emily Falasco had 2 each.
The Eagles led big, 16-3 after one quarter as Abby Liber started off strong with 8 points including 2 of 2 from the charity stripe. Brooke Laub hit a three ball as the Eagles pulled away early and never let up.
The Eagles pulled away in the second quarter after another three ball from Laub, along with one from Fitch and buckets by Liber, McLellon and Falasco helped increase the halftime lead to 30 to 10. Laub led all scorers in the quarter with 5.
The third quarter was more of the same as the Eagles increased their lead to 43-23, ending all doubt if there was ever any to begin with in this one. Liber had 5 more, while Clapham and Peganoff had 4 each.
The Eagles never let their foot off the gas, and finished strong with blitzing 17-1 fourth quarter to finish things at 60-24
