Avon, Ohio – Mark Wahlburg Chevrolet Stadium hosted an elite matchup between the Avon Eagles and North Ridgeville Rangers. Coming into the game, both teams were a perfect 4-0 while representing the Southwestern Conference. The Avon Eagles got the lead early and never looked back. They were led by Senior Quarterback Nolan Good who went 12/16 passing for 196 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The Avon Eagles came out firing on all cylinders in the first half. In the first quarter, the Eagles’ defense allowed just 28 yards on 14 plays from scrimmage. On their opening offensive drive, Avon journeyed 52 yards down the field in 10 plays. A 32-yard strike from QB Nolan Good to WR Jakob Weatherspoon set the Eagle offense in great scoring position.

Two separate holding penalties held them from finding the end zone on the drive. However, Owen Warrick was able to drill a 42-yard field goal to get Avon on the board.

Their next drive, Avon once again marched out a 10-play drive. This time, they went 83 yards down the field and were able to find the end zone. Nolan Good found WR Grant Barr in the back of the end zone for a 12-yard touchdown.

After the Avon defense forced their second 3-and-out of the half, the offense looked to extend the lead further. The Eagles did just that. On the 8th play of the drive, RB Tyler Kauffman forced his way into the end zone on a 1-yard touchdown run.

The Eagles’ defense was not done making plays in the first half. On an attempted flea flicker, Avon stripped North Ridgeville QB Cole Miller of the ball. Avon scooped up the loose ball and returned it to the Rangers’ 25 yard line. This put the Avon offense in great position to go 4 for 4 on scoring drives in the half.

Nine plays and 25 yards later, Nolan Good hit WR Matt Maxey in the end zone just before the half. With three touchdowns and a 42-yard field goal, the Avon Eagles were leading 24-0 as the game headed into halftime.

Avon picked up right where they left off at the start of the 3rd quarter. With great field position, starting at the Rangers’ 39, the Eagles took 3 plays to score. It was a 42-yard touchdown pass from Nolan Good to Jakob Weatherspoon that finished the drive. After the PAT, the game had reached a running clock.

The Rangers would not let the running clock last, however. North Ridgeville would go on a 5-play, 65-yard drive that found the end zone. The drive was capped off by a 55-yard touchdown catch-and-run from QB Cole Miller to Charlie Steinmetz.

As Avon had the entirety of the game, they would come back with another scoring drive of their own. On a drive that saw the Eagles drive 80 yards down field, RB Quiante’ Smith finished it off on a 27-yard touchdown run. Just like that, the game was back to a running clock.

The touchdown run by Smith would prove to be the final score of the game. The Avon Eagles took care of business on their home turf with a 38-7 victory over the North Ridgeville Rangers.
