Avon, Ohio – The Avon Eagles have been humming along all season and that did not change on Friday night. Avon cruised to a win over conference opponent Berea-Midpark. Nolan Good led the way as he completed the game with 14/15 passing for 250 yards and 2 touchdowns.
From the opening drives of the game, Avon had taken control. They forced Berea-Midpark to turn the ball over on downs on each of their first 2 possessions. On Avon’s first drive, they marched 56 yards down the field in 5 plays. Nolan Good capped it off with a 28-yard touchdown run to get the Eagles on the board.
On the first play of the drive, Nolan Good connected with WR Matt Maxey. This reception made Maxey the All-Time receptions leader at Avon High School. “Matt Maxey, it’s funny, he wants to play in the most competitive games against the most competitive people. He craves the best competition because he just loves to compete. I do believe that he is the best wide receiver in Ohio.” Coach Elder stated of Maxey after his record-breaking performance.
The second drive from the Eagles’ offense was promising and looking to find the end zone again. However, on a completed pass to Ty Beerbohm, the Titans forced Beerbohm to fumble. The Titans jumped on the loose ball and took over from their own 20 yard line. As was the case in their first two drives, the Titans could not get into a rhythm on offense. They were forced to punt the ball away after just 4 plays.
Avon’s offense would quickly make up for the fumble on their next possession. Nolan Good found Cole Kepner for a 66-yard touchdown pass that extended the Eagles’ lead. After the PAT, Avon held a 14-0 lead after the 1st quarter.
The Avon defense continued to wreak havoc in the 2nd quarter against the Titans. In 4 drives, the Titan offense tallied just 55 total yards and punted the ball away 3 times. Their final drive took the game into halftime.
For the Eagles’ offense, they continued to put their foot on the gas. Michael Colburn found the end zone on a 2-yard run that put Avon up 21-0 after the PAT. On their next drive, the Avon offense once again put together a 2-play drive that spanned over 70 yards of the field. A 23-yard touchdown pass from Nolan Good to Alex Huguley in the back of the end zone capped off the drive.
Looking to go up even more on their final drive, the Eagles were threatening to score. Berea-Midpark would once again force a fumble deep in their own territory, however. This time Cole Kepner was reaching for the goal line when the ball was knocked loose. The Titans would once again jump on the fumble and take over on offense. Heading into the break, Avon was leading 28-0.
The Avon Eagles picked up right where they left off to start the 3rd quarter. Tyler Kaufmann finished off a 6-play, 80-yard drive with a 49-yard touchdown run. Their defense would continue to make big plays as well. Jairel Fenton intercepted a pass attempt from Titan QB Dylan Papushak that set up the Eagles’ offense at the Titans’ 30. Two plays later, QB Blake Elder found Cole Kepner for a 10-yard touchdown.
Avon’s next drive would once again end in a touchdown. However, it was a defensive touchdown for the Titans that would be the score. After forcing their 3rd fumble of the game, Berea-Midpark’s Mitchell Hausler scooped up the loose ball and took it 20 yards into the end zone.
Avon’s 3rd QB Carter Jenny would get his chance to put his mark on the game. On the Eagles’ next possession, Jenny found Sammy Ulery in the end zone for a 22-yard touchdown pass. With that play, the Eagles had three different quarterbacks play in the game, and all threw for a touchdown. That play would prove to be the last of the scoring as Avon came out on top 49-7.
