AVON, OH – The Avon Eagles traveled to take on the Westlake Demons, and the Eagles would control the game from the very start. The Eagles’ defensive prowess won the contest 9-2 in a one-sided affair.

The first quarter started with both teams playing very good defense. Senior goalie Ava Kennedy for the Demons was playing very well to start saving every shot attempt the Eagles took. However, senior Addison Atkins was able to get Avon on the scoreboard just halfway through the first quarter making the score 1-0.

The Eagles’ defense came to play and were disrupting Westlake’s offense in every way possible. Junior Ava Schaffer for the Eagles was able to come down and score a goal of her own at the 4:10 mark to put Avon up 2-0 late in the quarter. Avon’s defense was amazing late in the quarter and it all started with senior goalie Grace Herbert.

However, junior Liana Ostrowski was able to finally get the Demons on the scoreboard with a goal of her own making the score 2-1 with just 2:47 to play in the quarter. Sophomore Ella Schaffer for Avon was able to respond right away to score another goal for the Eagles to make the score 3-1 to end the quarter.

The second quarter was a lot slower and not much happened compared to the first quarter. The Eagle’s defense was still playing very well and disrupting the Demons offense. Ella Schaffer was able to pick up right where she left off in the first quarter to score her second goal of the game to make the score 4-1. Avon’s defense was the determining factor in this quarter which led to offensive struggles from Westlake to ultimately lead into the second half.

Avon was super aggressive offensively to start the third quarter. It was a very back and forth quarter, however, star senior Finley Carlson was able to end the drought for the Demons and get her team back on the scoreboard with her first goal of the game. This made the score 4-2 at the 7:35 mark.

Ella Schaffer came right back down to respond to Carlson’s goal and was able to score for the third time. This made the score 5-2 in favor of the Eagles at just the 6-minute mark. Carlson was looking to respond right away as she was running down field with the ball, however, junior Sophie Sawtelle had a huge hit on Carlson off of a breakaway that erupted the Westlake fans. A great defensive stand from the Eagles after the hit to Carlson led to another goal for the Avon as Atkins was able to score her second goal of the game, making the score 6-2 to end the quarter.

The Eagles started the fourth quarter similarly to how they started the third quarter, being super aggressive on the offensive end. Avon’s defense was still holding strong and continued to disrupt the Demons offense. Avon’s great defense was able to lead to yet another point, this time seeing senior Ayla Perez score her first goal of the game. This made the score 7-2 at the 7:44 mark and it was all Eagles.

Carlson was trying her hardest late to rally her team to a late comeback as she was being super aggressively on offensive, however, her shots were missing just wide of the goal. The game started to become super physical late from both sides. Perez was able to respond to the physicality and score her second goal of the game to make the score 8-2. Senior Sevilla Anderson would come right back to score a last second goal making the score 9-2 and ultimately ending the contest.
