Avon came into the game after defeating Elyria 48-6 whereas North Ridgeville came in after a big loss to Olmstead Falls 42-10. Both teams were averaging 30 points ahead of tonight but, only one team would come close to that mark. in the Eagles nest.
FIRST HALF
Avon came out soaring as senior quarterback Sam DeTillio found Cam Santee for a 42-yard touchdown to put the Eagles up 7-0 49 seconds in. Then, on their next drive, the Eagles punched it into the endzone when senior running back Gavin Ehrhardt rushed in from 8 yards out. That capped off a 5 play 77-yard drive.
The Eagles then made it a 21-0 game when DeTillio found senior Drew Lindsey for a 47-yard touchdown pass on the only play of the drive. Only one quarter down, and Avon already seemed they were running away with it.
To begin the second quarter, the Eagles kept the foot on the peddle. Ehrhardt pushed into the end zone from one yard out, polishing off a 5 play 38-yard possession that only took 1:16. After more dominance by the defense, DeTillio trotted his unit back onto the field.
The points continued to roll in as he found senior Evan Garcia for a six-yard touchdown.
A Hunter Maxey interception kept the shut out alive.
Shortly thereafter, DeTillio found Ethan Holbrook for a 71-yard bomb for six. This time it only took 1:29 to find pay dirt. 42-0 lit up the score board and this one was over.
SECOND HALF
The defense would join in on the scoring bonanza to open up the last 24 minutes. Junior Carson Canning picked off Brendan Watchorn for a 35-yard pick six. Eventually, the game got comfortable enough after expanding the lead to 49-0 to send out the backups.
LOOKING AHEAD
Next week the Eagles have a tough Southwest Conference matchup. They travel to Olmsted Falls to take on the Bulldogs. The Rangers will look to get back to winning against the Pioneers of Elyria at home.
