The Avon Eagles displayed an absolute masterclass in the first quarter, ultimately beating Avon Lake 8-5.

The Avon Eagles came out on fire to start the first quarter. Ayla Perez got Avon off to a strong start, scoring the game’s first goal to put the score at 1-0 early. Ella Schaffer was able to come right back down for Avon and score a goal of her own, putting the Eagles up 2-0 early.

Avon showed no signs of slowing down anytime soon as Mia Della Vella was able to score a goal to build the lead to 3-0 before the halfway point in the quarter. Avon’s offense was having their way early in the game, and Avon Lake had no answer. Ava Schaffer, Ella’s sister, was able to get on the scoreboard as well for Avon, bringing the score to 4-0 at the six-minute mark.

Perez was feeling it and score her second goal of the game to make the score 5-0 at the 4:11 mark. This forced Avon Lake to call a timeout in hopes of regrouping to start making a comeback. Avon was having their way on both the offensive and defensive side and Avon Lake was completely flustered to start.

Ella Schaffer was able to come right back after the timeout and score her second goal of the game to make the score 6-0 with just 38 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The offensive prowess of the Avon Eagles continued as Mia Della Vella was able to score another goal to make the score 7-0 with just 16 seconds remaining. However, Kendall Holley was finally able to end the drought for Avon Lake and scored a second goal to make the score 7-1 going into the second quarter.

The second quarter started off very slowly compared to the first quarter. Avon’s defense continued to play very well, but Avon Lake was playing way better in the second quarter than they were in the first. Avon was attempting a lot of shots but was unable to convert on any of them as Avon Lake made major defensive adjustments at the end of the first quarter.

Avon goalie Grace Herbert was playing super well to start the second quarter, saving everything that was shot towards her. Both teams continued to play great defense late into the quarter, and Avon Lake started to control the ball heavily. The quarter was dwindling, and Avon Lake held the ball for the last 45 seconds of the quarter but was unable to get a shot off due to Avon’s great defense.

Holley started things off strong for Avon Lake as she would score her second goal of the game just a minute and a half into the third quarter to make the score 7-2. Similarly to the end of the second quarter, Avon Lake was holding the ball for a long time but was unable to get a shot off yet again due to Avon’s defense. Avon’s defense was playing super well and applied a lot of pressure.

The third quarter was another slow one, similar to the second quarter. Avon Lake, despite being down 7-2, was playing super well, and they were not giving up. However, Ella Schaffer would score her third goal of the game to end the scoring drought for Avon, making the score 8-2 headed into the fourth quarter.

Avon Lake started the fourth quarter playing super good defense. Holley was able to get a free shot, however, Herbert was able to have yet another spectacular save. Ava Manly was able to score an early goal in the quarter for Avon Lake to make the score 8-3 at the 10:35 mark.

The quarter became very slow about halfway through. However, Jenna Pashayna scored a goal for Avon Lake to make the score 8-4 at the 6:51 mark. It was all Avon Lake in the fourth quarter, and the Eagles were looking to make a late-game comeback. Pashayna would then come right back and score her second goal of the game not even a minute later to make the score 8-5.

Avon Lake forced Avon to call a timeout to regroup as they were playing very sloppy late and letting Avon Lake make a comeback. The defense of Avon Lake was still showing fight as they were applying a lot of pressure. However, Herbert for Avon was able to pick up a few clutch saves down the stretch to end the game.

The player of the game for the Avon Eagles was Ella Schaffer, with 3 goals, and the player of the game for the Avon Lake  was Jenna Pashayna, with 2 goals.
