Avon advances past the Bulldogs 45-7 in the Regional Semifinals

Avon Football fans, you have a player who is on the cover, and a chapter all to yourself, if you want a signed copy email Vince McKee at coachvin14@yahoo.com  Thank you!

On a rainy night in Strongsville Ohio, Olmsted Falls and Avon meet for the second time this year and second year they face off in the regional semifinals. Olmsted has had solid teams the past few years but failed to get over the hump that is the Avon Eagles. This was the case once again as the Eagle put together a stunning performance winning 45-7.

Olmsted Falls was the first to strike thanks to Rocco Conti who appeared to be unstoppable early on. He led his team down the field to set up a pass from James Rosol pass to Jack Pinchek that gave the Bulldogs an early seven point lead.

Avon fumbled on their first possession giving Olmsted Falls the ball with most of the field to go. An uncommon three and out became a theme for the Bulldogs, something that was a rare site all year.

Avon’s defense gave the keys back to the offense who drove off with the ball game. Avon’s offense would not get stopped until late in the third quarter with five straight touchdowns.

It was the run game that carried things for the Eagles as Caffey was a beast throughout the entire game. Gavin Ehrhardt was another running back who knocked Bulldog defenders to the ground every time he got the ball as he waltzed in for his first touchdown.

This kickstarted things, Caffey scored quick the possession after taking a handoff 67 yards down the field to give Avon the lead for the first time. DeTillio got his chance to shine on back-to-back possessions. DeTillio connected with Fitchko for a 39-yard touchdown and then to Holbrook for 60 yards and the touchdown.

Olmsted Falls was never able to get back into the game, that first touchdown pass of the game would be their lone touchdown on the night. Caffey topped off his impressive night with two more touchdowns as the running clock started up and the subs entered the field.

This was a result that no one from either side expected, Avon winning may not be a surprise, but the margin of victory is. Avon will take on Toledo Central Catholic in the Region finals next Friday night.

Jakorion Caffey is out player of the game with 18 attempts for 181 yards and 3 touchdowns.

  1. Coffey is underrated. Better than Conti. Avon has a more diversified offense than most teams. When you have multiple weapons and use them all, it takes away from individual numbers.
