Aurora walks off Archbishop Hoban, 5-4, in ten innings

Aurora, Ohio – Thanks to a Dom Trivisonno walk-off sacrifice fly, the Aurora Greenmen defeated visiting Hoban, 5-4, in ten innings Saturday afternoon.

Hoban jumped ahead, 1-0, in the top of the first, when Andrew Karhoff reached with a two-out single up the middle to score Jordan Kievman, who got on base due to a two-out walk and advanced to second due to a wild pitch.

Aurora took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Jameson Embrescia led off with a walk, and Brady Carlson reached on an error. Dean Larrance followed with a walk of his own to load the bases. Dom Trivisonno singled up the middle to score Embrescia to tie the score at 1. After a flyout, Nathan Balkisoon drew a walk to take the lead, 2-1.

Aurora tacked on two more in the bottom of the third, as Sam Bianco scored and Jameson Embrescia each walked. Embrescia scored on an RBI groundout from Brady Carlson to increase the lead to 4-1.

Senior pitcher and Rhode Island baseball commit Nate Fletcher had six strikeouts through five innings of work, only allowing two hits, in the first and fifth innings respectively.

In the top of the sixth, Will Givens drew a bases-loaded walk to cut the Knight deficit to 4-2. However, Kyle Hanna got out of the jam with a strikeout of Landan Browning to prevent further damage.

Parker Falkenstein led off the top of the seventh getting hit by a pitch. After a Zack Zimmerman strikeout and a Jordan Kievman walk, Zach Williams came on in relief for the Greenmen. The first batter he faced was Andrew Karhoff, who reached on an error at second base, scoring Falkenstein to cut the deficit to 4-3.

After a strikeout of Michael Ciavolella, Nate Shimmel reached base on an errant throw to first base, scoring Kievman and tying the score at 4.

Hoban senior Jack Stevens worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

The eighth inning belonged to the bullpens as Zach Williams and Luke Driscoll traded zeroes to keep the score tied. Williams worked around a single in the top of the ninth to keep the score tied.

Aurora loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning due to a pair of walks and a hit batter. However, Luke Driscoll worked out of the jam with a pair of huge strikeouts.

Nate Shimmel led off the tenth with a walk, and advanced to second thanks to a sacrifice bunt. However, Tommy Hach kept the Knights off the board.

Jayce Unverferth led off the home half with a walk. Jameson Embrescia took a pitch to advance him to second. Brady Carlson followed with a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third. Dean Larrance followed with a walk to load the bases. Dom Trivisonno hit a fly ball to center field, and Unverferth raced home in time to beat a strong throw from Parker Falkenstein to win the game for the Greenmen.

Aurora, now 16-4, travels to Medina Highland on Monday, May 8th to continue Suburban League American Division conference play. Jameson Embrescia scored a pair of runs, and Nate Fletcher threw 5.1 innings. Tommy Hach earned the win by pitching a scoreless top of the tenth.

Hoban, now 12-7, hosts Medina on Monday, May 8th. Andrew Karhoff (Ohio State commit) and Leo Wilson each had a pair of hits for the Knights. Landan Browning threw 2.1 scoreless innings in relief, and Jack Stephens also chipped in a pair of scoreless innings as well. Jordan Kievman (Louisville commit) walked three times and scored three runs.
