Aurora shuts out Lutheran West, 48-0

Aurora, Ohio – In front of a packed house at Veterans Stadium on Friday night, the Aurora Greenmen moved to 2-0 with a 48-0 shutout victory over Lutheran West.

The Aurora defense got a three-and-out, forcing Lutheran West to punt. It took the offense one play to find the end zone, as senior Lucas Manderbach took a handoff 42 yards to paydirt. This put the Greenmen up, 7-0, at the 9:55 mark of the first quarter.

On the following Greenmen drive, Lutheran West forced a fumble, which was recovered by J’leon Isom. The Longhorns set up shop at the 25 yard line, looking to even the score. They got a first down on a fourth-and-one sneak by Jace Palmer. The next play, Aurora defensive back Ben Lukasik picked off a pass.

A few plays later, senior Zach Pannetti rushed for a 23-yard score. This would increase the lead to 14-0 early in the second quarter. After another punt, Greenmen senior quarterback Ryan Dwyer found Quincy John wide open for a 74-yard touchdown toss. This increased the lead to 21-0.

Lucas Manderbach found the end zone once again, taking it to the house from 66 yards out, making the score 28-0 in favor of Aurora. He scored once again on a screen pass from Ryan Dwyer to up the Greenmen lead to 35-0.

Ryan Dwyer connected with Zach Pannetti for his second touchdown of the game, this one a 68-yard reception with 1:47 left in the second quarter. Aurora led 42-0 at the halftime break. Dwyer went 5 for 5 passing for 200 yards and three scores.

The second half was played with a running clock, as both teams used their reserves. In the third quarter, Aurora sophomore quarterback Ryan Ziegler found the end zone from two yards out with 2:03 left in the third for the final margin.

Aurora travels to West Geauga on Friday, September 6th to conclude non-conference play.

The senior two-way player had a big game Friday night. He had four carries for 87 yards and a pair of scores, and a 31-yard receiving touchdown.
