Anthony Wayne Advances to 5-0 in an NLL Battle Against Southview, 15-0

Whitehouse-OH, Reigning Northern Lakes League Champions, the Anthony Wayne Generals, hosted the Southview Cougars for Week 5. The Generals benefited off of two touchdown runs by senior running back Joe Caswell and a 23-yard field goal by Seth VonLehmden. Both teams had a slower start, but Anthony Wayne’s gritty and relentless defense stumped Southview to a scoreless game.

Last matchup between the Generals and Cougars, Anthony Wayne came out victorious with a finish of 48-0. This year, Southview gained a new coaching staff and more depth this season.  

Both teams came into Week 5 undefeated, but only one could come out on top.  

INJURIES: Generals starting sophomore quarterback Grant Kinnee has been out due to injury. Senior Marco Morrison has filled in the past three games. Generals Aidan Lohmeyer had a season ending injury. Will Luther has filled in for him at right guard.

QUARTER 1

The first 11:57 of the game passed without either team scoring before Anthony Wayne’s defense responded. Southview’s sophomore quarterback Will Mayzes pass was intercepted by Generals senior defensive back England Allen. Caswell went on to complete a 10-yard touchdown run advancing the Generals to 6-0.

QUARTER 2

In the second quarter the Generals received a punt from Southview’s Logan Howe that brought Anthony Wayne to their 30-yard line. Caswell took four straight runs to open their next drive, making it all the way to the Cougars redzone. VonLehmden then tallied a 23-yard field goal to punch a 9-0 lead going into halftime. 

QUARTER 3 

To open up the second half Caswell went on a 75-yard touchdown run to put Anthony Wayne up at 15-0. The Cougars began their next drive on their 49-yard line. Senior quarterback Avery Offenburg connected with junior running back Isaac Sexton for a 22-yard gain. Anthony Wayne’s senior defensive back Carson Spradlin ended the drive by intercepting Mayzes pass on the next play. 

QUARTER 4 

Anthony Wayne’s defense was huge all night long. The Generals continued to force picks, sacks and turnovers. The Generals killed the clock for the remainder of the game. 

Player of the game: Anthony Wayne’s Joe Caswell with 136 yards on 25 carries. Tallied his 9th touchdown of the 2022 season. 

Next week, Anthony Wayne will travel to Bowling Green and Southview will travel to Perrysburg.
