NORTH OLMSTED – It was a big night for Amherst Steele Quarterback Tyler Brezina as the Comets rolled to a 32-14 victory. Brezina finished with 4 touchdown passes and 182 yards as his team led comfortably most of the way.
His top threat was Casey Hamrick who hauled in two touchdown passes. Also, Torre Weatherspoon and AJ Woods both caught touchdown passes as well.
For North Olmsted, they stumbled out of the box and never really got any consistent momentum going. Running back Kam Bellamy was held to 36 yards on the ground on only 8 carries. Sammy Caps could only mount 35 yards on 6 carries.
The Eagles main rusher was their quarterback Anthony Guercio who picked up 74 yards on 12 carries, albeit most of those were not called plays, but rather running out of the pocket to avoid the constant blitz from the Comets.
Guercio did a little better in the air, throwing for 160 yards on 15 of 28 passing with 2 touchdown passes, 1 interception and sacked twice.
The Comets saw their first promising drive snuffed out with an interception at the goal line by the Eagles. From there, they would make the most of the rest of their first half. Brezina got hot and tossed 3 touchdown passes.
One in the first quarter to Weatherspoon, then two more in the second quarter to Woods and Hamrick to build a commanding 22-0 lead.
North Olmsted ran a beautiful two-minute drill, aided by a costly 15-yard Comet penalty to get in scoring position as the half was winding down. The Eagles cashed in on the opportunity when Guercio hit Sammy Roach for a 9-yard touchdown as the half approached.
The Comets would put it away for good midway through the third on a 36-yard bomb from Brezina to Hamrick. A small comeback from the Eagles was not enough, and the Amherst Steele Comets would improve to 4-0 as the Eagles fell to 2-2.
