The Lady Comets came into Friday Night Hoops looking to capture their second SWC victory in 24 hours and did so with a come from behind 50-39 victory at home over Berea-Midpark.  The Tians fell victim to slow shooting stretches in the second and fourth quarters in the loss while the Comets capitalized on big nights from Kristen Kelley with 16, Bradyn Silvasy with 15 and Kayla Ferancy with 11.  Natalie, “The Nazz” Pleban chipped in with 8 as well in the Comet win.

The Titans were led by Rylee Szojka and Emma Arnold with 8 each, while Grace Forgach, Lauren Lantow and Reagan Braaten all had 6 each.  Avery James had 4 while Casey Friel finished the Titan scoring with 2.

Both teams came out gunning in the first, and appeared more than ready for the Friday Night Lights showcase.  It started with 5 quick points from the Titans with three of those coming from a Forgach corner three to get the Titans rolling early.  The Titans answered right back with a Kelley foul shot and a Silvasy three from the corner.  Grace Forgach stayed red hot with a drive to the lane, scoring again while getting fouled this time.  After a Kelley foul shot cut it to two, a Emma Arnold three ball gave the Titans their largest lead of the game at 10-5 midway through the opening quarter.

Bradyn Silvasy drilled a three the next time the Comets touched it, and the two teams just kept going at it from there. The Titans finished the quarter on a 6-5 title to take a slim 16-13 lead on the Comets after one quarter of action from the land of Green and Gold.

The second quarter belonged to Amherst as they began to turn the tide.  The big points from the Comets coming on a Pleban three in the early moments to tie the game, and then a spinning move in the paint led to a turnaround jumper by Kelley to give the Comets their first lead of the night at 18-16 with 6 minutes to go in the half.  By the end of it, they had doubled the Titans up in the quarter, and now led 31-23 as the Titans went ice cold from the field.

The momentum would switch again in the third quarter, as this time, it was the Comets turn to go ice cold from the field as the Titans rallied back and outscored them 14-5 in the frame to take a 37-36 lead into the fourth.  The Comets at one point in the third, actually led 34 – 25 following a Ferancy three pointer, before the Titans outscored them the rest of the way heading into the fourth.

With the fourth quarter beginning in what was just a one-point game, it looked as though the Titans young bunch could pull off the big road win against a Senior packed Titan team.  It was not to be however as Berea-Midpark once again went cold from the field, only scoring two points in the entire quarter to fall to Amherst 50-39.

The big boppers in the quarter from Amherst coming from a Kelley drive, a Kelley inside spin move in the paint and a Silvas three ball with 3:52 to go in the game, as the Comets now led 43-37.  For this Titans squad, it was just too much to overcome as the Comets hung on for the win.
