Akron SVSM advances to state semifinals with 61-21 win over Louisville

Canton, Ohio – The St. Vincent-St. Mary’s Fighting Irish show time and time again that they are one of the top teams in the state of Ohio.

Saturday was no different.

The Fighting Irish defeated Louisville, 61-21, on Saturday afternoon at the Canton Civic Center.

Saturday’s victory was their 18th regional championship in school history and their fifth in a row outside of the cancelled 2020 season.

The Louisville Leopards were making their first regional championship appearance in school history.

The Irish got off to a 9-0 lead to get things started, thanks to the efforts of Sencire Harris and Ramar Pryor. Pryor had seven points in the first, and point guard Kevin Hamilton had five.

As a result, they ended the quarter up 25-8.

The Irish continued to roll, padding their lead to as much as 37-11. They held the Leopards to just one bucket (a Hayden Nigro layup) in the second. Sencire Harris, who had 12 points in the first half, converted a runner to end the second quarter.

In the third, the Irish would pad their lead over 35 points, triggering the running clock. Sencire Harris had seven in the quarter, for a game total of 21.

In the fourth quarter, the reserves played for both teams as the running clock stayed in effect until the finish.

In addition to the 21 points from Illinois commit Sencire Harris, Cleveland State commit Ramar Pryor had 14. Senior Ethan Connery added nine.

The Louisville Leopards were led by Will Aljancic, who had seven points, followed by six from sophomore Hayden Nigro.
