Reaction – I’m okay with Cage winning, and also fine with Nick Gage being a part of the finish as well. What I don’t understand is why Danny Magic Menard is being cast as the “Hero” in this situation when he makes a natural heel. They made look Killswitch look weak in this scenario as well.
“Timeless” Toni Storm (c) vs. Deonna Purrazzo – AEW Women’s World Championship match.
Result – Storm by pinfall
Reaction – The only pop this match saw was Mariah May coming out dressed up as the original punk rock Toni Storm. The match itself was awful, and ended up as a giant letdown. Perhaps, they rushed it.
Orange Cassidy (c) vs. Roderick Strong – AEW International Championship match
Result – Strong is your new AEW International Champion.
Reaction – With Orange banged up and favoring his back the entire time, this was to be expected. I also love the fact that it was a clean finish. Kyle O’Reilly showing up to hug Strong afterwards and was a nie touch. What is Bobby Fish up to these days?
Eddie Kingston (c) vs. Bryan Danielson – AEW Continental Crown Championship match, plus if Danielson loses, he has to shake Kingston’s hand
Result – Kingston retains
Reaction – This match proves the insanely talented Danielson proved he can put on a classic with anyone. Kingston is slowing winning me over as he can take one Hell of a beating and sell it well. I love the fact that Danielson stood tall after and shook the hand of Eddie.
Wardlow vs. Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Lance Archer vs. Chris Jericho vs. Hook vs. Brian Cage vs. Magnus vs. Dante Martin – All-Star 8-Man Scramble for future AEW World Championship match
Result – Wardlow wins
Reaction – I didn’t enjoy the beginning with all the big men trying to outmuscle each other. It was slow, and had zero pop. Dante Martin also blew several huge spots in the match that made it look clunky.
In the end, the right guy won, and that is all that matters. It is only a matter of time before Wardlow wins the AEW World Championship and the United Kingdom instantly turns on him while he reunited with MJF.
FTR vs. Blackpool Combat Club (Claudio Castagnoli and Jon Moxley)
Result – BCC wins
Reaction – Great match, a solid ending to the feud, and Claudio and Moxley make a strong case towards a possible Tag Title run. It has serious blood gushing from Dax Wheeler, and violence throughout along with quality wrestling as well.
Konosuke Takeshita vs. Will Ospreay
Result – Ospreay wins
Reaction – This was the Match of the Year candidate we thought it would be. This isn’t just a match of the year candidate, but possibly the best match in AEW History. What an amazing instant classic this turned out to be. Ospreay needs to be pushed to the moon and not get lost in the AEW shuffle.
Samoa Joe (c) vs. Hangman Adam Page vs. Swerve Strickland – AEW World Championship match.
Result – Joe retains by choking out Page
Reaction – Welp, Page is a full-blown heel now. He did everything short of punching an old lady in the front row. Page tapped out so Strickland couldn’t win. They will fight again at next months PPV, but rest assured, Strickland will eventually get his title shot as Khan is in love with that asinine dance Prince Nana does. Beyond lame!
Sting and Darby Allin (c) vs. Matthew and Nicholas Jackson – AEW World Tag Team Championship match
Result – Sting and Darby retain
Reaction – I get the fact that Flair was there, but what was the purpose of Ricky the Dragon Steamboat being there at ringside? Not sure I get that one? It was cool to see Magnum TA and Nikita Koloff at ringside however. The tribute video to sting was horrible because they could only use still frames of PWI pages, and all Japan Tapes. This video could only be done right by WWE which owns the tape library of WCW and the NWA.
This was just very poorly done. Almost a fitting end for someone who blew the biggest angle of his career while back in WCW by showing up so stoned to the arena, that Eric Bischoff panicked and Hulk Hogans ego wouldn’t put the title on him clean at Starrcade 1997.
But hey, at least he came out to Metallica, so that was pretty cool. By the way, in case you missed the masked goof mention it, those two vastly out of shape guys dressed up as Surfer Sting and Wolf Pac Sting were his sons.
Making matters worse, Khan ran the show long so we missed his goodbye speech, and most people were already in bed by this point. The match was incredible but the ending was done all wrong. A legend MUST go out on his back. Yet again, fan boy Tony Khan ruined a sure thing…
