AEW Revolution 2021 was tonight from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida.  Let’s take a quick look at the results and our quick takes on them.

The Young Bucks retain the tag Championship gold with a win over MJF & Jericho.

Take – Smart move keeping the belts on the best tag team in the world as an inter-promotional battle looms with Impact and The Club. This may also lay down the seeds for a Jericho MJF split.  MJF will recommend the change at The Inner Circle War Council will be him taking over the group from Chris.

The Death Triangle wins the Tag Team Battle Royal

Take – A great choice for victory as these two will have a classic with The Young Bucks whenever they hook up.  In the meantime, it was a way to get the countless quality Tag Teams in AEW some screen time.

Hikaru Shida retains the AEW Womens Championship with a win over Ryo Mizunami

Take – I’ve been saying since Shida won the strap back in May of last year, she needs to defend against the number one heel in Britt Baker.  Hopefully we will finally get that dream matchup now that  Baker led an attack on Shida post-match.  Now is the time!

Miro and Kip Saban over OC and Chuck Taylor

Take – They’re starting to push Miro to the moon.  The announce team seems to be doing their part as well.  I’d look for a Miro World Title shot at some point in 2021 with how this is going.

Scorpio Sky wins the Brass Ring Ladder Match for a shot at the TNT Title.

Take – A smart move to give the newly heel turned Sky a quick push.  Also loved the fact that after a year they finally got Jake The Snake Roberts some action and relevance in a match. Excited to see what new addition to AEW Ethan Page will do.  A lot of potential there.

Hangman Adam Page over Matt Hardy in Big Money Match

Take – Hangman Page has the best mix of Shawn Michaels and Stone-Cold Steve Austin you will find.  Now they need to do the right thing and get him as far away from The Dark Order as possible.  Don’t saddle him down with that useless bunch.

Sting & Darby Allen defeat Team Taz

Take – While I don’t particular care for these Cinema Matches.  I have to give credit where it is due, this was done to perfection.  AEW doesn’t have them often, but they have mastered the Cinema style match.

I also loved how they had live commentary during it despite it being obvious that it was taped prior.  This was also smart considering Sting’s extreme limitations.  The high spot off Darby Allen jumping from 3 stories up was also well done.

The Main Event Match and Botched Ending

The match between Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega was incredible.  Very well done until the final minutes, that is when AEW became WCW for the first time in their existence and blew a great night.

The hyped explosions were nothing more than 4th of July sparklers and the ending was overbooked.  Unless you’re going to have a Impact vs AEW supercard, then I’m not sure The Club is needed in that finish.  I do like the Eddie Kingston face turn however.

How did you grade the show?
