AEW Full Gear Recap & Reaction

The Target Center in Minnesota played host to the AEW Full Gear PPV tonight.  It was a heated card as everyone on the card tried to steal the show with one gem after another.  Let’s get right to the recap and reaction.

At Kee On Sports we are blessed to have multiple sponsors for our Sports Entertainment content.

Kenny Omega dropped the AEW World Champion to former Tag Partner Adam Page in the classic match it was billed to be.  This ends a nearly year long reign for Omega as it turns out the only man who could beat him, was the man who knew him best in Page. The match was a back and forth classic and in the end, it appears a face turn for The Young Bucks may be on the way as they refused to help Omega cheat.

Elsewhere on the card….

Hikaru Shida and Thunder Rosa may be singles stars in the AEW Women division but they started the card off tonight showing that they have the capability of being an incredible tag team as well.  The duo took out Jamie Hayter and Nyla Rose in 12:32. They were a fluid tag team with little to no friction at all. They absolutely looked great and if they ever created an AEW Women’s tag Title, these two would be a top threat.

The MJF vs Darby Allin match would become an instant classic of 22 plus minutes of constant drama and near falls.  Say what you want about the fan base following of each man, but this match proved they are absolute money in the ring. There were over 25 near falls as each man hit every single big move in their repertoire. Eventually MJF would cheat to win by hitting Darby with his Gold Ring and wrapping him up for a headlock pinfall just as he said he would.

The Tag Titles stayed put as the Lucha Brothers hung on to the gold with a hard-fought win over FTR.  It was a good match, PPV worthy no doubt but nothing like the classic the Brothers had with The Young Bucks back at the September PPV.  A smart move not to allow FTR to have belts from two federations as well.  They must stay away from that moving forward.

Bryan Danielson continued his early tear on the AEW roster as he defeated Miro in the finals of the World Title Eliminator Tournament.  Numerous times in the match, Miro had a chance to put Danielson away and just couldn’t get the job done.  Bryan Danielson would battle all the way back to win by DDT and he will now challenge for the World Title at some point in December.

Christian Cage with Jurassic Express took on The Young Bucks and Adam Cole in a match that saw blood shed all over the building.  Adam Cole was busted wide open as blood poured out of his forehead.  Meanwhile Jack Perry was tripled team into swallowing a mouthful of thumbtacks. There was even a thumbtack kneepad. In the end, Jungle Boy would get sweet revenge when a wicked chair shot to Nick Jackson earned his team victory.

A surprising clunker on the card was Cody Rhodes & Bastard PAC vs Malakai Black & Andrade El Idolo as it failed to generate any heat or crowd reaction.  It was also clear that neither team had any chemistry and this was a hodge podge match that just didn’t work as PAC got the pin on Andrade.

Dr. Britt Baker kept the momentum going for the champions with a win over Ty Conti.  While Conti is not ready for a title run yet, she looked good in the moment and proved her worth as a single challenger. Meanwhile, the fight between CM Punk and Eddie Kingston didn’t last long as Punk walked away the winner of the slugfest.

The Inner Circle won another team orientated match in a Minnesota street fight against American Top Team which has a long history of losing in MMA, and have now carried that tradition into Pro Wrestling as well.

As for the big “surprise”, fan favorite Jay Lethal showed up and challenged TNT Champion Sammy Guerva to a match this week on Dynamite.  Fans can expect that one to be excellent!
